Oh, to have a video camera.
Beautiful Friday, I'm home early, with nobody to ski with. Wife of the next door neighbor decides to have her pontoon put in the water at the marina. Alas, even though her husband (yep sexist remark) hasn't even looked at the boat, she's decided it's time. It won't start, so she asks for my help. I offered to tow it home from the marina to their dock, where he can better work on it anyway.
So we get to the marina, and I ask where the boat is parked {sic}. She says down here, and leads me into a literally blind alley. I go through the multiple fore and aft, trying to spin the Mastercraft in about the same distance as the boat length, and her genius cousin decides I'm getting too close to the dock and helps by pushing off. Now I'm F* and it takes some manual effort to reorientate the boat. Get over to where her boat is parked and they decide to help me tie off, which was a riot to watch. I try to start their boat, and it doesn't start, but the battery is fully charged and everything but the starter works. Ok, as I suspected we're going to tow the boat home. I manually turned their boat around, wind's blowing pretty good and I need to quickly start towing, just as she jumps off the boat to run to the other dock. Get her back on the boat, somehow her cousin is now off the boat :) Keep in mind, an extremely full and limited access marina, heavy winds, a free floating Inboard, and free floating sail of a pontoon. Finally get out of there without hitting too many other boats :), and coasted their boat to park at my dock until I can get my boat stable on the lift. Already called my daughters to come out to help. Here's four women with one task, to stop a very slow forward movement and park against my dock. Do you think they could do it? Heck no, it hits the other neighbors lift! I finally get my boat secured and put theirs in it's parking place, and she pulls out a package of bungy cords from Walmart. It was all I could do, to not laugh and cry at the same time. She was the recipient of many jokes while her husband and I drank lots of beer Friday night :)
