Have an 06 x1, love the boat. Somtimes a little cramped with more than 6 of us. My family is 40% slalom (recreational), 40% wakeboard, 20% surfing. I know there are several people here who have gone from X1 to X2. Specific questions are 1) Ski wake comparison with or without wake plate for recreational skiing 2) wakeboard wake on the X2 without ballast. I know the surf wake is better on the X2. Those of you who have had both please chime in.

As an X-9 owner, I too am interested in this feedback. How wake plates work into the equation would be of interest to me also.

Can't comment on the Wake Plate as I don't have one but I did go from an 03 X2 to an 07 X2.
For recreational slalom skiing on a scale from 1 - 10 the slalom wake on the old boat was 8-9, new boat 7-8 depending on how the boat is loaded.
I like the wakeboard wake much better on my new X2 and there's no comparison between spending a day on the new boat vrs. the old. The new boat just has so much more room. It also rides better and handles better. Oh, it also has a cooler. One of the things that bothered me on the old boat was we always had a cooler sliding around somewhere. I know it sounds stupid but sometimes the little things drive you nuts.
Not saying the old boat wasn't a good boat, just that the new one fits us much better.

I agree 100% with this assessment. We went from an 06 X-1 to an 08 X-2. For non-competitive skiing, we could hardly tell a difference. We demoed an 08 with the wake plate, and to be honest, we could not tell much difference trying to use it. But that will probably not be a universal opinion.
We changed for the same reasons - much more room, much smoother ride. Loved the X-1, but don't have to think about 'the next boat' any more with this X-2.

The X 2 is my first mastercraft we only ski on occasion I think the ski wake is a bit big , but I don't have a wake plate , as far as ride room it,s the best 20 foot boat out there, I boat on lake george NY and it,s a big lake we have NO problems on big water
Does anyone have pictures of an X2 ski wake with or without the plate. I'm thinking of changing my 197 for an X2 which I know will make a huge difference in the ski wake but that may be the price to pay to be able to surf and have more room.

Search around the site for some more info as this topic is visited in depth every few months. General consensus is that the wake plate helps but the wake still wont be close to what you're used to from a PS. This issue is explained well by Witness in the posts in this link::
