XStar05 sent my a PM and wanted a check list of what he should do when he takes delivery of his new XStar. He wants it to be perfect. Given all the problems I had, not so sure I should be giving advice on checking over a new boat. I figured everyone should have some great advice for Ryan so lets here it....What should Ryan check when he takes delivery of his new '05 X-Star?

I know what you mean...works gets in the way of life.

I don't want this kid to have troubles with his new X-Star he is the one that is getting the barbed wire one from the boat show. I believe his family is purchasing the boat, he is only 20 if I'm not mistaken. Huge MC fan. Don't want to see anything bad happen to that boat.

Well, I would say lengthy water test before the papers are signed!

Sizzler wins!

But seriously, there's a thread on this somewhere. Tell him to take the search engine for a ride. In that thread, I posted a link to the old Malibu board in which they've done a very good checklist for what to look at when you take delivery. If he can't find it, they probably still have it over at wakeside rides.

"He luurrves you!" Great one, sizz!

And, of course, special thanks to MBO and wakeside rides for the checklist.

/edit. Just my dumb opinion, but you might consider linking to that checklist instead of doing the cut and paste of it here (hopefully I linked it in the old thread - can't remember for the life of me and can't find it now). Somebody on MBO probably worked hard on that and might not like it posted over here. If anyone can find the old thread, where I referenced it let me know where it is so I can link it if I neglected to previously.

Don't forget to do the MagRed check. ;)

Trailer lubrication

You might have a heck of a time checking the operation of the Wedge door, but if you try long enough.... ;)

well when I bought my 2001 F-150 the owner of the dealership (family friend) took me through the entire truck and showed me what every button/switch/knob/handle did or operated. He opened the owners manual and showed me where it listed the fluid quantities and type, spare, jack blah blah blah. Very professional and thorough.

This was on a $12,000 truck, I would expect your dealer would drive you and your boat to the marina, have a dry run on the ins and outs of how your MC operates all the whistles and bells.

Launch the boat and have a shake down cruise, again have the dealer show you what everything does and how to correctly operate it.

Don't be in a hurry, plan for this to take the better part of a day, I would not even think about getting in the water for a pull until the dealer has demonstrated how the boat works and that in fact the boat works as advertised/expected.

Just remember be patient, walk down the hill and hump them all!

And be sure to post some pictures.

Must be a Ford thing. My dealer did the same thing when I bought my '01 Expedition. Come to think of it, my Honda dealer did the same thing when I bought my 96 Accord.
