View Full Version : Around the boat driving
I know it's on here somewhere, but can't get the search to find it. Looking for tips on driving the around the boat trick.
Tried tonight after seeing in a show yesterday. What I know is that what we were doing doesn't work... Was trying to cut across the wake to the right, have the driver dump the gas & turn to me. As he was slowing down, even though I was cutting, I ended up sinking before the rope even got to him... I was on my slalom ski.
Help?

No, i tried cutting across the wake to gain some speed, which wasn't enough.
Based on 2 posts above, looks like we'll have a better shot next time. I told him the issue may have been that his boat was made in Florida....

That's an awesome trick. I've seen it done with two skiers, but the third one going the other way takes it to the next level!

On a 60 foot rope at about 30-34 MPH the skier should be just outside the wake on the drivers side. Upon the signal from the driver the boat driver turns a hard left. Keeping on the throttle. It is important that the boat DOES NOT power turn. As the rope clears the drivers head he manuvers the boat back to the right. The skier must always try to maintain a tight rope cutting away fromt the boat. When the boat reaches 90 degs from the start, at the last moment the skier should cut back left towards the boat as it accelerates away. This can be a 180 or a 360 depending on what the driver does.
The driver should always try to keep an eye on the skier out of the corner of his eye. Boat control is important. DO NOT POWER TURN the boat. Multiple skiers require more speed. A flat bottom ski is preferred. It can be done on a slalom ski. A Old Single jumper is optimum.
The other thing you can slow down the boat and have the skier try it on 2 skis vs. one. That you you can get a feel for it.
