took my boat camping for the long weekend and left it in the water for two days. the first morning i noticed all these little black bugs all over the upholstery. i clean them off with a towel and no problems. the next morning we got up and left and i didnt wipe off the bugs. well i uncovered my boat yesterday to clean and head to the ski lake and i found a bunch of little balck stains on the seats from the bugs. vinyl cleaner or 303 didnt do the job. i grabbed my mildew stain remover that i used on my previous boat bofore i sold it. it cleaned them right up and my seats look sparkingly white, the bottle suggested to wash the seats with water afterwards. this worries me, makes me think there is bleach in it. i washed the seats and covered them in the 303. should i have anything to worry about? anything else i should do to prevent drying and cracking?

I don't know about the stuff you used, but I have found that using a Magic Eraser made by Mr. Clean works great for getting a lot of things out of the apholstery. It also works great on little scratches in the fiberglass. It won't fix the scratch, but it will get the dirt out of the little cracks. Try it. I think you'll like it.

I have had very good luck with Starbrite's Mildew Stain Remover (as shown here):
http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=10001&productId=72470T
Spray it on and about 10 minutes later even the darkest spots are gone. I suspect this stuff (and all mildew removers) might not be too good for upholstery so try not to make it a part of your regular routine.

Sounds like Starbrite is what rodltg2 used. Thought about using it no something this weekend, read the instructions on the bottle, figured it might be a little harsh for the bit of dirt I was removing, and opted for soap and water.
i found a bunch of little balck stains on the seats from the bugs.
I'm pretty sure those little bugs were spiders and their residue (droppings) are VERY difficult to clean up.
I've heard that Starbrite Vinyl Shampoo works pretty well (it lathers up and you let it sit for a while).

I'm told that Babe's upholstery cleaner is a good one, too.
