I am looking at a 68" obrien Siege, I am 6'1" 190 lbs, ski
around 33mph for now. is this the right lenght for me. We
do mostly free skiing(no coarse on lake).

Try it out if you can. A lot of ski size depends on how you ski. If your are an advanced amateur doing tournamnets or recreational. It also matters how often you ski. 68" is good to a bit too big for you. Yoiu will not turn as quickly but you will get up easier and take less punishment, esp in rougher water.

Check out O'Brien's recommendation for your size and speed at http://www.obrien.com.

The current pro thinking is that the ski can be a little longer than old school. Longer will give you faster acceleration and more speed with a slower turn. Turn speed can then be increased by moving the fin forward, but I would really strongly recommend leaving the fin at factory.

Also the Seige is a bit wider than some of the more competitive O'Birens lile the Mapple and the Verdict, so it could be a bit shorter for you because of the width. It's a very good ski and for a recreational to beginning competetor should serve you well.

Good luck. Now just go ski.

If you are a just free skiing at 33mph you may want to consider going up to a 70" ski. If you want to up the speed a bit or plan on trying to do some course skiing then the 68" sounds about right.

I am 5'11" 185lbs and ski the course at 36mph and am on a 68". My next ski I will probably go down to a 67" because I bought my current ski when I was skiing at 30mph now at max speed it is a little slower than I would like in the turn. Gets cross course fast though.

I had a 68" Siege for one season. Ski was too long for me but should be ok for you. I bought it because I got a good price.
It was a decent ski but would pop out of the water on hard edge when the lake was bit choppy.
Broke a rib and then sold it to my wife's nephew who weighs more and it suits him fine.
I ski on a 67" KD7000 now and love it.

I am 6'1 with no shoes, and I weigh about 185. I just bought a 68" seige. I am a recreational skier. I dont ski a course. I just go out and carve up the lake having a fun time. I will never be a pro level skier and I am content with that(althought I respect the hobbyists here that are awesome skiers). I ski for fun. I just enjoy getting nice turns, big sprays, and impressing the chicks :D I have skied with the siege about 7 runs now. SO far I am very please with it. Its stable, but very responsive. Its nice and tight in the turns, and it speeds across the wake well. I recommend you try one. I was trying to decide between the siege and the synchro. I called O'Brien and talked with them about it and told them how I skied, and what my intentions were. they recommended either the seige or the synchro. the synchro is s bit wider and I was a tad hesitant on it for that reason. I wanted something manueverable. I am still interested in how that synchro skis. (anyone here ski on one?)If I have some extra cash laying around later in teh summer, I may opt to pick up a synchro to see how it is....maybe...

But for now, I am very happy with my siege. Its a great ski so far. :toast:

let us know what you decide!!!!! :)
