So I bought a 95 Pro Star and found only one bolt holding the alternator to the mounting bracket instead of the two looked like should (top and bottom). So I "fixed" that and added a second bolt, bought a new belt, and though all would be good. The belt did seem a little tight, but my first outing was fine. After about 5 hours of use, the alternator pulley came misaligned, made strange noises and seemed to grind up the locking key that holds the pulley to the shaft I think, and finally the houising around one of the alternator bolts broke off and the alternator just went flop. Now I am thinking there was a reason only one bolt was holding the alternator in when I bought it? Was there an issue that year with the bracket and which one of the two bolts should I attach the alternator with again - i forgot how it used to look or should I really be using two? Uggg, not a good situation now I may have to buy a new alternator as well.
