I notice my XMD3 has an illumination wire coming out the back of the head unit. Is this for the back lighting I'm seeing in pictures of people placing lighting in their speakers and subs? I have no experience with this concept. Can somone please explain what type of light and how it connects to the head unit and speakers/sub. I just completed hooking up my new JL marine sub to my 5 channel Alpine amp. Sounds great! We finished up in the dark so my pics will have to wait for another day but as I was reading I came across the head unit book mentioning something about an illumination feed. Please help!! Once again I KNOW NOTHING! Thanks. Stereo in 2004 Prostar 197.

I believe that light would come from your nav light switch into the head unit, to let the head unit know to light up when your nav lights are on. in a car there would be an illum wire that would turn the headunit back lights on when the car lights came on.

i would probably just wire it up to be illuminated all the time.

that would be the easiest.

if the deck has a orange and a orange with white stripe, you should just be able to combine those.
