The original X-Star was a d-drive. Those are the orig graphics. '96 I think but correct me if I am wrong...

your correct, it wasn't until 98 or 99 that the x star went to a v drive

SD190EVO is correct. The first X-stars were direct drive PS205s. I remember the first year being 1997 but it could have been 1996. I remember because I bought my 1995 PS205 brand new in 1996.
You are not seeing things - it is an original.

woops! Well dont I feel sheepish. In the back of my mind I was thinking all along....what if this is real and Im just not familiar with it....I will say one thing. As first impressions go ....this one just looked like the guy with the V6 Mustang with all the v8 emblems and Cobra snakes on it.....Now I know!

1997 was the first year of the X-Star, it's color was Green.
98 was Blue (as pictured) and as mentioned in 99 they went to the v-drive configuration, but still used an extended pylon with 2 rear braces. In 2000 the x-star had std towers. I remember in 97 tinking this is never going to work, man was I wrong!
Below is a pic of the 97 (original) Xstar

Yep, there is a '97 on Sammamish, used to be a promo boat sold to HO Sports. The guy who owns it now was a manager there back in the day. Still looks like it did, green with the white graphics & the extended pylon. Direct drive.... so it drives like it's on rails.
