Pulled trans last weekend to fix bad seal.Has anyone put a bead of silicon on the bottom of the bellhousing before mating the trans back up.Not sure if I need to or not.Keeps water out of the housing if the bilge level becomes alittle high. Thanks guys

I wouldn't recommend sealing the bell housing. There is actually a drain slot in the bottom of the bell housing to let any water that builds up in the bell housing area to drain out. That is not designed to be a sealed assembly.

I agree with Engine Nut, not necessary and ill-advised.

Thanks for the reply guys.My 85 does not have a drain slot or hole that I can find.I asked because the bellhousing came from the factory with a bead of silicon on the housing.I thought this seemed stupid because water would most likely still find it's way in and then stay trapped for alonger period before draining out. Thanks again guys
