Ideally, is this better (or just more expensive to maintain) if you live on a fresh water lake? I am looking at a boat that has it - my current prostar does not.

I like mine for two reasons.
-The heater runs off of antifreeze and not water...less to worry about when it gets colder and you never have to winterize it.(the heater)
-Less to worry about in the early spring and fall when the temp drops at night. Not to say that your heat exchanger would blow up but it's easy to drain.
-Not any more expensive to maintain.

i think a freshwater cooling system is better because you have a somewhat more stable operating temperature in your engine and the coolant should have corrosion inhibitors in it so the inside of the engine will corrode less. granted, this is not a big issue in fresh water, but it should help. I concur it is not much more expensive to maintain.

thanks - I totally agree with you - it especially makes sense that you have some corrosion protection for those of us who believe you can put 20 years on your MC if taken care of - thanks

If your in fresh water I would take advantage of that with an open cooling system. Colder is better and closed cooling systems, just can not be as effective as an open system. Thats my 2 cents
