After talking it over with my husband this morning, I just wanted to clarify some info from my previous post about our issues with our 08 X45. I was really more venting in the beginning b/c of the whole situation instead of my intention here...which was to seek advice on our problem and possible causes/solutions from the group.....not to bash MC or a dealer. We bought a MC b/c we feel they flat out build a better boat than all the rest and the GA MC dealer went a long way in assuring us we could not go wrong if we decided to purchase one. The initial anger came from the fact that we had planned a weekend trip with 4 other couples and rented a big lakehouse about 3 hours from where we live. The boat issues came up Saturday morning on our first trip out and ruined the whole weekend of planned fun...and I know these things happen...but it still sucked.
(1) The local GA MC dealer did everything they could to try and sell us a new boat....but the new X45 they had we liked was an 09 model and was more than we wanted to spend..but they were offering a heck of a deal on it and are a great group of guys. So we decided to set out and try and find an 07 used one on our own in our price range b/c we decided we wanted the X45 after previously owning 2 Nautiques.
(2) Found an 08 X45 online in MI and got in touch with the local MC dealer in MI trying to understand why someone wanted to get rid of an 08 model with only 45 hours on it so soon. We were told that when MC released the X55 in 09....he decided that is what he wanted and just wanted to sell his X45 and buy the new X55....which was a good thing for MC. They assured me that nothing was wrong with the boat b/c they had just recently serviced it after the initial break-in period and that it was a really good deal. So we flew up there and looked at it and bought it for a good deal compared to other 08 X45s on the market b/c it was being sold by an individual. The MI MC dealer agreed to handle all the xfer paperwork, added a few options I wanted and even checked the boat out for me again to make sure all was well before shipping it down to GA.
(3) We are just in the beginning stages of trying to diagnose this issue and replacing the broken composite scoop with a brass one is just step 1 of the process. I am confident that the GA MC dealer will get to the bottom of this issue and get it repaired as necessary and get us back out on the water again so we can enjoy our MC.:)

What is the dealer fixing for the $200?

If the scoop broke and the boat was not taking in water as it should then the impellar is probably trashed. This is an inexpensive part that can be changed in your driveway. I would bet that the scoop could be changed in your driveway as well.

did you pay the warranty transfer fee, the boat should have had some of the 3 year warranty left on an 08

I had a big long doozy - and the thread closed.......

My $.02.

The brass scoops are stout.....also heavy.

Just because the part is plastic in nooo way shape for form would that indicate to me that its cheap.

You would be amazed at the differing levels of plastics that can be utilized in place of metals. Often with equivalent strength to the metals they replace. The current scoop on your boat may not use the MOST advanced plastic composite on the market, but I am sure its several steps above what you think.

I would not care either way......as long as the product is engineered to do what it does...makes me no difference.

Personally, I would rather hit something submerged with a composite scoop vs brass.......Plastic will give.....brass...not so much. Given the price for the boat, saving $5-$10 or even $20 would not have any affect on selling price.....so my guess is that it was done for more positive reasons than just taking $20 out of the cost of a boat that size.

BTW, I deal with Action up here in MI. GREAT group of guys!!

Good Luck!!

I was just playing, I am glad it worked out. I know the guys at Action pretty well and Chris is a friend of mine. He would never leave anyone haning. Rest assured. I bent my prop on a Saturday at 2:00. At 3:15 Action had already closed and I met the owner in the parking lot. He stopped went back in and they did not have a prop for my boat so he started walking the lot and found a prop on a new boat, went and got a prop puller and handed me the prop off a boat in the lot. That did two things. One is saved my weekend of boating fun and two I will never buy a boat from anoyone else. Again, glad it will all work out. An X45 is a great bote !!!

The dealer estimate was approx $200 for replacing the scoop and the impeller together.

Agree with you 100%...the guys at Action went above and beyond to make sure I was satisifed with my purchase even though it was not technically their boat I was buying...they made the experience worth every bit of our time with their efforts.

Nothing but great service from them.

I tried to save time and money last year by going to another MC dealer (NOT Action) that was closer to the MI / Indiana state line, where I store the boat.

For that effort I was rewarded with a partially installed oil filter, and a bilge full of oil to start off the first four weekends of summer. This dealer just had their franchise pulled. (rumor was for service related issues....and HMMMM I wonder why?)

A weekday trip to Action, and they cleaned the bilge, started and ran the engine to assure that the filter was the problem.....And gave me a solid piece of mind that was easily worth 10X more than I paid for the service. :)
