Been working on this slowly while in school for the last couple years....Does anybody know if this is a mastercraft trailer..look familiar??? I know it's not original but...Also, has anybody done a lift like this on their trailer??? Any thoughts, comments, concerns, etc. are greatly appreciated. Hope to paint the bottom in a few weeks....

Painted with Dupont Imron

How does the Imron hold up on a "flexible" surface? We wanted to use that on our old boat, but the painter suggested that it was too hard and would crack/craze as the hull flexed.

Most painters will use some flex agent in the primer and Imron like is used on today's car and truck plastic grills, trim, bumper covers and even the plastic, fiberglass and carbon fiber aero kit components.

Used it in the basecoat/clearcoat on the black plastic headlight bezels, grill and air dam in '94 and still good as new.

Imron is a two part product, right? I think our painter mixed it "soft" to reduce the chances of cracking or crazing under the flexing of the hull.

What is a windage tray in your oil pan? never heard of this before but I have got a lot to learn.

A windage tray attches to the studs on your crank bearings and catches slung oil from the crankshaft. It help to keep the oil from being aerated and lessons reciprocating weight of the crank resulting in " free " horsepower

I agree, that is one pretty boat and it's not even finished yet. I love the classic S&S boats.

My neighbor has a 78 or 79 that is wasting away in a shed some where. The trailor sat out in the woods every summer while the boat was in the water. He tries to tinker with the motor but he can't get it running because he keeps trying to modify every thing. He asked me last summer if I would be interested in re-wiring the boat for him but I told him that I didn't have the time. I just talked to his son a week ago and asked him if his dad would sell the boat to someone (me included) who would like to restore it and USE IT rather than let it sit. He got rather insulted when I told him he would be lucky to get 2-3K for the boat as it sits.

A pylon mounted extension w/rack might work instead of a tower? I agree a tower will definitely detract from the beautiful restoration you have done.

Very nice. I have nothing against towers on boats that were offered with towers, or are not classic machines, but a tower on that boat, while completely up to you, would devalue that boat in my opinion. I am a traditionalist when it comes to the oldies. I would not have put a tower on my '84, but would consider it on my 07 which was offered with one.

Just sayin! Awesome work though. Where did the decals come from?

Ummmm I believe the engine is out of a 80's crown vic. Marinised by Indmar. 351 Windsor. Completely rebuilt. New Edelbrock intake manifold, Mallory marine distributor, Holley 4 barrel 600 CFM carburetor...The engine cover seems to be hitting the carburetor because of the new manifold, any ideas??

Thanks very much.

I'm not sure how I missed this thread but good golly sir that is bad ***. The hours you have into this boat must be in the hundreds with no detail left behind. I have restored motorcycles but never had even close to the amount of hours you have into her. That gelcoat with the contrasting blue and white gives me. Well you know. Awesome........

Looks good.

Another talking point is the dual speed-os. Two were used for tournament use. A backup if one clogged up. The stop watch and speed-os were what was used for a lot of years in competition where records were being set every year. A slow run can ruin a world record. A hot run is optional to the skirer for a re-ride.

I WOULD CRY MY EYES OUT IF YOU PUT A TOWER ON THAT THING! IT IS SOOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL! If i were you I would get a setup like this.

So what is that platform on the wake pole, and where can I get one? I bought an 88 this summer with a wake pole, and while it has the bimini top, I really like the look of the hard bimini top in the picture I couldn't quote. :(
Anyone know any details about that boat?

Some have seen some benefit to adding some weight to the front. As easy as it is to dunk the bow, that idea has never done much for me. If you want to go fast, throw a footer out back and let her rip - no porpoising then.

Adding essentially a small wedge to the back edge on the bottom of the hull providing a little more down force on the bow. That is the extent of my knowledge on this subject. Might take a little searching to find more info here.

That is correct, you can tune the wheel to make this stop. I know a guy in another forum that explained it all out but i can't find it right now. I'm sure Eric at OJ would be able to help you out. If not PM me and I will give you contact info on the guy I know. He built a wood boat that has a V drive HOT ROD motor in it. He has tweeked it out and I know he can explain this.
