Are boat spins bad for the boat? When you are going almost full speed, crank the wheel one way as far as it will go, and then put the boat in neutral to get the full spin of the back end.
Has anyone heard of this being bad for the boat?

This is the new never ending discussion, it just keeps coming back.... :D
I have been known to get boat spins after emptying out my cooler. It ususally does not harm to the boat, but I feel like heck the next day.

Would it be fair to say that the old school boats (1986 and earlier) will "spin" better that the newer ones? My only experience is with my 86 and a buddys 01-X9. No comparison when it comes to "a spin" in my 86. But his boat sure is purddy. :uglyhamme

I haven't spun a mid-80s boat, but on the few occassions I've tried it, my 93 spins like a top, and I don't need much speed to make it happen. It is more stressful on your running gear than going straight, but if done sparingly, I think the consensus is (and I could be wrong) that you're not going to ruin anything.

i can spin my 92 at 25...but that's slow and boring...i did one at about 40 the other day...that was really cool...but i try not to do it too often. But if someone new gets in my boat i like to show them what a Professional ski boat can do! That's about the only time i do them.

Hey Sten,
The word is that a violent spin can knock the prop shaft out of alignment. Look at the back on your transmission where it bolts up to the prop shaft. The gap is measured with a feeler guage & adjusted at the motor mounts.
That said, I've been doing Around the Boats in my '94 205 for 4 or 5 years, numerous times a day, and never had any issues....... not quite the same spin, but about the sharpest turn you can make without it spinning.
