Hi Folks

Have a 1987 ish 190 with velvet drive.
When in neutral when i rev it it engages drive,i have checked cable does not move a mm when i have neutral button out it does not move and moves properly when button in.
When in drive it seems to engage forward and reverse properly with that nice progressiveness.
just a pain when first started as just want to pick up revs to get water circulating.
have checked oil level is on full mark, just wondering where to go from here.

Any ideas greatfully appreciated Les

check that when shift lever by driver seat is in neutral that the lever on the tranny is really in neutral. disconnect the cable end at the tranny and move the lever on the tranny such that it is in the center detent position for neutral and then compare to cable connection. I suspect your shifter is slightly off and when it revs up, it engages. otherwise it may be a problem with valve in tranny but check cable alignment first. you should be able to adjust cable neutral location at the cable bracket on the tranny.
