I am new to this sight so I hope I am posting correctly...I am trying to find out what is a fair price for a 1985 Stars & Stripes. It is a buddy of mine who is selling the boat. He just got a new ski boat...I can't say what kind, but his wife will not let him keep both. He wants $6500. It is in good shape as far as mechanical, body & interior. Cosmetically it needs a cleaning & wax, but gelcoat is free of scratches etc...and upholstery is in good shape, no tears etc...Mechanically it needs a prop recondition and burns about a quart of oil every other tank. It comes with original trailer and decent canvas cover.
Any thoughts? Anything specific I need to look for as far as this particular boat?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks,
-john

No pics. Not sure on hours. I think it is the second engine, but I have seen & ridden in it and it is a very clean engine & tons of power & tight. Thanks for the welcome & reply

Burning 1 qt. of oil every 50 gallons (two tanks) of gas is very excessive. There is something wrong there. My '83 (351W with around 1000 hrs) burns less than a qt. between 50-60 hr oil changes. It probably takes 4 hours to go through a tank of gas. Check the plugs and compression. It sounds like worn or broken rings.

My 82 with 620 hours dosen't use oil. Sounds like a problem there.
Other than that, price sounds about right for year. But beware, the engine could cost you big $.
