Need some recommendations for a big guys slalom ski. I am 6'5" and 260#. Intermediate skier, I can slalom OK on a ski from a combo set, but I would like something that would give better performance for a skier of my size. Not looking to run courses, but just to have fun and make strong cuts. I have always had trouble with 1 ski starts, even behind a proper ski boat. I am thinking about a Connely Big Daddy. Anyone tried one?

I think you might be selling yourself short on the Big Daddy, it is a good ski but not a huge leap forward from your combo skis. I'd take a look at the H.O. Magnum, its wider than a conventional slalom ski but not as much as the big daddy. The Magnum is 71" ski and should work perfectly for what you are looking to do.

I never liked the Big Daddy -- tried one out and I felt like I was standing on a big ramp and could never get a bite out of the water. I am about 215-220, 6-3. That Magnum by HO looks very interesting to me.

Another option with a little more performance potential would be the HO Triumph...also available in 71"
I've always wanted to try a 69" and 71" Triumph, 69" Connelly F1X, and the 69" Obrien Synchro. I'm also 6'5" and about 240, but do most of my skiing in the course.

I decided to go with the HO Triumph in 71". Thanks for the input. I am glad I went with the higher performance ski so I can be happy with it for many years. Got a 2007 closeout from http://adrenalinewatersports.com/ for $299 with double Level boots, about 45% off. They have a couple more if anyone is interested. Also ordered the rear toe plate for until I master the 1 ski start. First ride planned for this weekend, I'll let you know how it goes.

Double boots are a little harder to get up on, so if you have never used them, make sure you stay tucked a little longer.

Finnsdad,
How do you like the 71" Triumph?
I've been looking for a ski and have been debating btwn Nitro/NOS, Senate/C, F1X.
I'm kind of leaning towards F1X or Senate. I know you already purchased the ski, but for anyone else following this, there is quite a bit of info here...

I've got two 71's for sale, HO Charger (intermediate) and HO Phantom (rides great). The Charger was used as a beginner ski by my big bud (6'5" - 240lb) for about 3 years. The Phatom is practically brand new with bag, animal front binding & RTP. He's out of the sport and willing to let these go for dirt cheap. See two skis to the right in the pic.

I am 5'9" and about 215, I have an HO with a good wide top like the HO charger or the Connely in the middle. I find that it helps create the pocket in the deep water starts. I like the significant padding on the HO's that make the slalom more comfortable. Mine has a wrap binding which holds nice and tight. The fin has a cross fin that is adjustable that is supposed to help turns, since I don't have a course to run I haven't done much with it. Hope that helps give some info and good luck!
