I have a 88 or 87 tristar with dual axle trailer. There used to be a spin stop under the trailer/ball tightening nut. I'm not sure what the exact name of the part is but now it broken and the tightening nut spins loose when trailering the boat any distance. Last year I used tape to keep it in place and I called a Mastercraft supply house who said that part is discontinued.

Any ideas on fabricating a new one at home?

All I know about the TriStar trailers is, both the single axle and tandem we made by SMP,
Sweetwater Metal Products Company
(423) 337-3466 127 Industrial Park Rd, Sweetwater, TN 37874
Trailer Manufacturers, Boat Trailers
They may still have/they use the same parts and with your phone call may be able to assist you.

Also, you can check around your area for trailer sales/service shops, RV/camper dealers and http://www.northerntool.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/category_6970_113+7384, that may have replacement parts on the racks, if not the whole assembly.

This pictures shows how the hitch nut sits on the trailer. The broken piece was a washer that had ears/tangs that would fit in the crowns to stop the nut from loosening up.
