As I understand the USCG regulations, a capacity plate isn't required on boats 20 feet or longer. In this state, the DNR told me that on a 23 foot boat, they don't go by the capacity plate, if there is one, as long as everyone on board has a life jacket and a seat to sit on. The weight limits that are set include equipment that isn't attached to the boat. The Coast Guard doesn't include fuel in that weight capacity, and IIUC they don't include pumpable ballast either.

Most states follow USCG regulations, but some may not.

Well -- the tanks don't add much themselves.
And water weighs a tad over 8 pounds a gallon.
So, a 120 gallon ballast weighs about a thousand pounds when full.
And about 500 pounds when half full, etc.

Most boats have two ballasts of varying sizes.

I was under the impression, on my '07 X30, that full ballasts were another 1200 lbs. 350 for each the rears, and 500 for the KGB. I may be wrong

No your not missing, I know they dont weigh much when empty, I was curious how much they add full. Heck I didnt even know the capacitys of the two in the rear and the one in the center. So each rear one is 120 gallons and the center one is how much? My boat is a 03 X30
