first day out on the lake with my rebuilt 4160. starts fine every time hot or cold, but under load when I punch it to pull someone up it sputters and coughs and I have to pump the throttle quickly till it catches- then motor runs fine. It does this every time I punch the throttle. Is this a simple adjustment problem? All plugs are new and it just had a recent tune up. Any suggestions?

That is what appears to be a 4010 Holley for the big block Chevy and has externally adjustable floats.
Have the float levels been adjusted/checked? Those carbs can be very temperamental, especially to altitude change.

I would check the float level, which is especially easy if it has side plugs on the bowls, and then also check the accelerator pump to make sure it is working correctly.
