In the middle compartment where the middle drain plug is located, there is traces of fuel. Is this something that I should be worried about? What could be causing this?

Thanks!

YES!

What could be causing this?
A fuel line or carb leak

Do you smell gasoline or just see a trace of oil in the bilge water?
On a 84, you may have some oil in the bilge from a small block leak or residue from the last oil change. It is hard to change the oil filter without getting a little oil in the bilge. Unless you clean it out real good, you see that residue for a long time.

If you smell or see gasoline. Get it fixed before you use it or it may go boom!

Absolutely you should be worried about this.... do not start the engine until fixed. The fumes could make it explode!!! NO JOKE

You need to find the source .... gas in the bilge is not a good thing. PLease be careful.

if you have a spin on fuel filter...........check that first

panic is better than worry when it comes to explosive vapors in enclosed spaces
