i saw this posted on Nicholls. It looks like a great idea. With all the recent accidents , im really thinking about tryin one out. Only .98 investment!

What recent accidents are you talking about? The 2 recent fatal head-through-the-handle incidents? This idea would definitely help prevent them. But my concern is a hand/arm through the handle which I expect is more likely and frequent. This device probably won't reduce the likelihood of my hand going through the handle and it and may actually make it more difficult for the hand/arm to come out before the handle is yanked by the rope after the fall, causing a very serious arm injury.

IMO, this device will prevent the (very) rare fatal head/neck injuries, but it may cause more hand/arm injuries. I guess that is the tradeoff. I don't know. I'm just throwing it out there for debate...

There are some other designs out there that include a smaller gap between the guard and the handle, as well as a piece in the middle (in between where your two hands go) that would more likely prevent "arm through the handle" injuries...

and there are other ones out there. One of the guys on thewaterskiforum.com has designed one...do a search for Arm Guard and you will come up with his info..

I'm thinking along the line that Shep is. Good chance of a hand or arm injury with the handle guard. Then again it beats dying.
