My 91 Prostar has a 351 with the powerslot option. What is the top speed with the powerslot trans & prop? Just curious what the top speed and RPM's should be? How much speed do you loose with the powerslot in comparison to not having it?

All help appreciated!!

I have compared my boat against its non powerslot twin and have found that the top speed of both is 45 MPH at 4500 RPM.

I have played around with the rpm vs speed calculation and have found that the 1:1 drive should be slightly faster, not counting prop slip, drag etc.

The bigger prop on the powerslot has less slip and provides the better hole shot.

I have heard that the powerslot uses more gas, but you couldnít prove it by me.

What mods did you do to get over 5,000 rpm. Stock should be 4,600.

I beleive your engine a 285ho should redline 4600rpms. If you going to gps it use an electronic tach also and see if your really getting 5000 rpms. The 4600 rpms assumes you have the correct prop. All information based on my past 93 with same engine.

I am almost positive that it is over the 5000-RPM mark. I will check again in the next couple of weeks.
My only thoughts are that the boat was a promo boat in 92. So maybe they set it up a little bit difference.

I think I have only had it up there like four time in the last 4 years. So I donít get on it that much.

Also you said something about redlines; these boats donít redline do they.

Every motor has a redline.. a point to which the motor is turning faster than the valve springs can keep up.

I wouldn't personally be testing it myself

i know that every motor has a redline.

you are telling me that on a Windsor Motor it has a redline of 4600 rpm.

I just figured that the way they set these boats up to get the best performance. That is why the limit is about 4600 rpm.

I also though that there was some issue with these boats going to fast and them getting air borne or something like that.

Hey Powerslot.

Isnít the transmission 1:1.5 that is the numbers for a powerslot correct.

How do the numbers go?
is it the motor:tranmision or
is it tranmision:motor.

It's 1.5:1 up through 2004. I believe it's currently (as of this year) 1.26:1, but I could be wrong on the exact ratio.

I was able to get on the hot side of 45MPH with my 1985 Stars and Stripes w/ Power Slot and Holly 4-barrel. This was only after upgrading the points to electronic ignition. When I moved to Colorado, the altitude took it down to the hot side of 41MPH with no mods (i.e., timing advance, carb jet size change, prop).

Okay heres the update.
I went out yesterday and found that with my 92 190 with the 285h.p. and a powerslot transmission. i ended up with about 4800 rpms.

Sorry i was a little of on the rpms.

Yeah he did....and thanks. Hope I dont sound toooo stupid here but I boaght my 01' 205v months ago and would like to know how to tell if you have Power Slot. All I know is that compared to other boats it has a hell of a hole shot MHO. My Tranny plack states "HSW 630V1 15.5 Ratio A=1.56 B=1.57". Thanks in advance!!!:D
