I am installing a HeaterCraft heater into my X-10, and purchased a new 3 position (Low, Off, High) switch from MasterCraft. Has anyone had any experience wiring these 8 terminal switches? I think power and ground attach to 1 & 4 respectively. I think 7 & 8 are for the light on the switch to light up. I had a jumper between 7 & 5, and another jumper between 8 & 2. I had the two fan speeds (low & high) on 3 & 6. When I tried this out, nothing worked. Please help!!!

Do you have another 3-way (On-Off-On) switch on your dash? If you do, I would take a multimeter to it and see what terminals are what by checking the voltages of each terminal depending on the switch position. There are circuit schematics of the Carling Sealed Marine Rocker Switches on the internet, but that stuff is foreign to me.

Thanks for the reply. That stuff is foreign to me as well, that's why I posted here. I did take out one of the Ballast switches, which is a 3 way, but it doesn't have the same number of contacts. It has 7, and the #7 wasn't used. Anyone else have any thoughts, or better yet, a diagram I could follow.

If I remember correctly carling switches are double pole / double throw switches (or two sets of switching contacts). Usually they would have center two posts be input and top and bottom be high or low. This can be verify as noted with multimeter (A $15 one from Walmart would work). You just touch combinations to see what you get.
0 (or near zero) ohms is continuity - connected circuit
Infinite (Mega ohms) or no reading is off.
Best to check with continuity before power:
As you noted 7 & 8 give indicator.
2 input power, 1 high, 3 low or vise versa
seperate circuit
5 input power, 4 high, 6 low or vise versa
What you request is on the Carling website... I presume you have the J configuration (centered off, switching either direction)

Babymoore3, thanks for the response. I'm sorry, but I'm still not getting it. So there is no ground for the switch? Do I need to run power to both 2 and 5?
I'm hoping someone can take a look at their existing heater switch and tell me the exact config, i.e., Pwr - 2, Ground 5, High from fan - 6, etc. I will try using a friend's multi-meter to see if I can make sense out of the resistance readings, but if someone knows the setup, that would be great.
