I'm replacing an exhaust manifold gasket. Does it make a difference which side goes against the block? The gasket has different textures on opposite sides. Any suggestions here?

I sure don't know. Does the angled notches match the block or manifold?
If all else fails, call Vince at Skidim in the morning.
I'll bet a beer, it dosent matter.

Thanks Denny. I'm with you I wouldn't see how it would matter but I'm not sure. Maybe JimN or someone knows?

I would think it does make a difference. But I would be guessing, like you guys??? Sorry
It probably won't matter, but you can put it on with the metalized surface toward the head.

Brian, put the two outside bolts in first, then slide the gasket down over the two outside bolts then insert the rest of the bolts... If you already knew this then disregard this note.....

No, I didn't know that Rick thanks I'll do that.

I'll vote with JimN. I think the metal side will be more heat resistant....that's a pretty hot blast of exhaust coming out of the cylinder head.

I have to wonder why the right side hook is different from the left side. There must be a reason.

"The felt side goes towards the manifold, the metalic side towards cylinder head."
Bri, you keep that shop in a precise military order don't you?
I have not seen the top of my workbench in months

Ok that's how I put it on. Had to call MarkP and get a suggestion because I had a bolt that wouldn't tighten. Ended up drilling out the hole and putting in heli-coil.
Ric, I try. The Chief (Carla my wife, yes she really is a CMSgt E-9) has a tight inspection routine around here. ;)
