The build a boat page should be changing to the 2005's in 5 or 6 weeks, I heard.

08-16-2004, 10:32 AM
I bet I did this a hundred times. Will do again as soon as the site is updated for 2005's.

08-16-2004, 10:37 AM
lol, i created the thread and i can't figure out how to save the boat picture from flash...

ok, figured it out.

here's one of my top choices.

08-16-2004, 10:45 AM

Nice looking ride.. Whats it got in it?? Hey n-hows the wake:toast:

08-16-2004, 10:47 AM
another top choice

08-16-2004, 11:05 AM
Well, it is my dream boat (197), may have someday though.
I guess I would get it with the 350MCX and powerslot. Maybe the LQ9, but from what I read on here, probobly not worth all the extra $$.
Of course a color matched tandem axle trailer.

If I am dreaming that much, I guess I better add one of the last 2004 Ford Excursion Limited's with the 6.0 turbo diesel (18MPG) to pull it with.

As far as the wake goes, I will have to wait and see.

08-17-2004, 10:17 AM

When you pick it up, can I get a pull,:D ? I think I’m going with the 197 or 209 but its going to have to be 8 or 10 years old.

08-17-2004, 10:38 AM
Sure thing, as soon as I get it I will give you a pull.

With one kid to be in college in the next year or 2 and a second kid to follow, it may be 8 to 10 years for me as well.
Maybe somebody can buy the boat for me now and baby it for 8-10 years then give me a good deal.

I hope mine has a few good years left in it.

I would just like to have my 16' glastron carlson back.... Life was simpler then...

The new X9 doesn't even hold a candle to this baby... :uglyhamme

08-17-2004, 02:42 PM
Beauty is in the eye and all, but you southern folk still crack me up, Brian:D

08-17-2004, 02:59 PM
Ya gotta love that one!

Is that second crossmemeber down a bleacher seat?

08-17-2004, 03:04 PM

That must be for the bimini. They must not have completed the shingles on that yet

08-17-2004, 03:17 PM
How are y'all getting your boats to this forum from the flash? I can't figure out how to save my boat to the computer. Only print it.

So this is printed and scanned.

How do you save that flash stuff. PS 197 White top, viper red to the water line, white hull below the water line. Teak platform with a transom saver. Red accents over charcoal. No tower. Etc. Etc. Etc.

08-17-2004, 04:29 PM
I was using the print screen function, then opening it in a photo editor and going from there.

08-17-2004, 04:37 PM
The only thing i'm sure of is that i would drive and ski each one of the "Big 3" slalom boat before giving them 50 k. :twocents:

This is my dream boat.I don't want to buy, just give it to me :D

08-17-2004, 05:01 PM

Are you advertising for Overtons?

Hey John, get that thing off of here. We don't want everybody to know about that. :)

There is that better. It still is my dream. :D

08-17-2004, 06:58 PM
I like many others, have done this a million times...

You bet, John. But it is also my dream. :D

You're welcome to come ski behind it any time you like (so it can be done justice by your superior form)!

08-18-2004, 08:04 AM
choice #3 which one should i go with?

08-18-2004, 08:20 AM
and....if i crossed over to the dark side. I'll probably get banned from the site for this.

08-18-2004, 08:28 AM
The new X9 doesn't even hold a candle to this baby... :uglyhamme

you know, that's actually a pretty creative use of what they've got, even if it does look ghetto.

08-18-2004, 09:11 AM

You know I actually like that tower

08-18-2004, 09:38 AM

You know I actually like that tower

the 'bu tower or the ghetto bleacher tower?

08-18-2004, 09:48 AM
The one on the, ****** rocks!!

08-18-2004, 09:51 AM
my MC is still by far my fav (except for the 'bu tower)

08-18-2004, 09:55 AM
something fun to do: go to build a boat (on MC site) and try to make an UGLY MC. It's actually hard to do.

08-18-2004, 12:24 PM
1. Where those dudes are from I doubt their is a Ghetto. That looks pretty redneckish to me. I don't know to many "homies" with ski boats. But that's just me.

2. I think that Malibu is ugly. The tower looks like something off of a Sci-Fi movie. The lines just aren't as sharp as the MC. MY opinion.

08-18-2004, 12:31 PM
I think I like it because it reminds me of one of those handle catcher things on some older Mastercrafts

08-18-2004, 01:38 PM
my MC is still by far my fav (except for the 'bu tower)

like i said, the MC is still my favorite. Wouldn't trade my '85 for any of them.

08-24-2004, 12:35 PM
I guess I am just really happy with my boat because every one I designed ended up loking like mine. If I lived on the ocean though, this one would be my choice: X80 sans graphics

08-24-2004, 12:43 PM
I have been wondering what wakeboarding behind an X-80 is like. Probably similar to hitting a vert ramp! That is one huge boat... Gotta have the twin engines at 350HP a piece... :woohoo:

08-24-2004, 01:09 PM
H20: That 'bu Illusion tower may look cool to you, but it is a royal PITA. Look where the mounts are.. They're exactly where you'd want to step onto the boat from the dock, hand stuff in/out of the boat, reach to pick up a ski over the side. Every time you want to *DO* something -- which, to me is the whole point of owning a $60K+ boat -- that damn tower base is in the way. It should earn their ergonomics dept the 'Bonehead of the Year' award (or, if you're old enough to remember 'Gung Ho', "Ribbons of Shame").

ZeroFlex may not be far behind from a 'ribbon' with the way their 2002 folds down (or the threaded soft aluminum), but it's nowhere near as inconvenient as that Illusion... :twocents:

I don't think anybody builds the boat I'd want.

- 21' V-Drive Bowrider with:
- Fuel economy of Rick's 16' Carlson;
- Burns Regular gas (Merc Inboards do)
- TAPS out of a Tige
- 2 Speed Tranny out of MB Sports B52
- Wake from a Malibu Sunscape 21
- Gelcoat from a MasterCraft
- Seat cushion design NOT from a MasterCraft
- Hull construction & internals from MasterCraft
- Maybe a 2005 ZeroFlex - haven't seen one for 'real' yet

I was younger and poorer but that johnson outboard could really suck the gas while skiing..

2 speed tranny. Now that would be cool.. The problem with a MC or "comp boat" hull is they really arent designed ( at least that it my understanding) to go fast.. Somewhat of a mix of displacement/semiplaning hull.. Of course my reason for a 2 speed tranny would be to give it some legs.. Maybe you are thinking a "tractor gear" for wakeboarding/skiing and then kickit up for barefooting???

I have been around boats with shifting transmissions, but they were all "daycruiser" go fast style hulls.....

08-24-2004, 09:01 PM
Either way, 2 gear ratios would sure help you could go 'tall' when you want to cruise; 'low' for wakeboarding, etc...

Apparently, you can shift 'on the fly'...

lakes Rick
08-25-2004, 12:53 PM
Shifting on the fly is no big deal.. The tranny's in boats I have seen were either turbo 400's with second gear removed or an old Powerglide... Just an automatic transmission.. Although it sounds like the MB program might be marine specific and talk about cool...

The MB boats I have seen are awfully expensive......

08-25-2004, 01:01 PM
Yeah, Rick, i've seen those, too. But the tranny in your MariStar is way smaller and way lighter than an old PowerGlide. I doubt very much that MB would change geometry of V-Drive compartment / driveshaft mounting to accommodate the 2-speed tranny, which means it needs to be virtually the same size as the one-speed ones..

lakes Rick
08-25-2004, 01:13 PM
Yeah Neil, I am sure you are right.. I tried to get a pic of it to come up in the MB link and couldn't find one.. Would like to take a look at it...

Although, my boat has the walter V-drive/BW tranny and the newer ones ( 98 up ??) have the hurth, which I understand is the v-drive/tranny all in one... Basically the Borgwarner velvet touch is just a one speed auto.. So it probably wasnt too very difficult to design a slightly larger unit with another gear in it......
