I have a 1994 prostar with a leaking rudder post. is there a packing in there? or do I have to pull it and replace? James

Grease the rudder first before doing anything. If that does not work do a search on here and you will come up with a ton of threads on this.

No packing, just a couple of O-rings...but the primary water barrier is grease. There should be a zerk on the rudder port inside. Go get some marine or wheel bearing grease and shoot some in there. The tolerances are close, so it won't take much and pressures will be high - you may need a lever action grease gun to get enough pressure for it to take any grease.
If that doesn't do it - it still leaks - your rudder port and/or rudder post may be worn and may need to be replaced. I'll bet shooting some grease in there stops the leaking, though.
