This weekend I was cruising at about 4000 RPM and all of the sudden the boat powered down like I was pulling the throttle back, which I wasn't. It caught me off guard and so pulled back the throttle and turned the music down. Then put it back in gear and it took off fine. All of my gauges looked good too. It did this one more time on the way in. I was thinking maybe it was a battery connection since it was so rough as usual (lake travis). I tightened the terminals and one was a little loose. After that the boat ran perfect. Has anyone experienced this? Would the battery connections cause that?
I also met a guy with a 40th anniversary pro star and it was awesome. All mastercraft owners are best friends when they meet.

I have an 04 xstar and actually had this same thing happened just yesterday. The engine shut itself down twice on me so I decided to take a look in there. A hose running water through there had popped off and was flooding water into the enginer compartment. As a precaution the boat turned itself off. Bilge pumped out all of the water and i tightened the hose back on. Problem fixed. I'd say check to make sure all of the hoses are properly connected and nothing is leaking.

Just a guess, but maybe your loose battery connection caused the fuel pump to temporarily stop running. Hope that's all it was.

I also have a 2007 and within the first 20 hours I started having the same problem. The cause turned out to be the fuel pump. I would run at 3000+ rpm and then it would just drop back to around 2400 to 2100 rpm. I would stop the boat, start it up and it would run fine for a short time and then it would do the same thing. My dealer seemed confused on what was going on. He hooked up his computer to the engine but when the actual event happened on the water he couldn't pin point the cause. I suggested the fuel pump replacement which he didn't agree with but once the fuel pump was replaced I've never had the problem again and two years have passed by.

Thanks guys. I checked everything as soon as it happened and there weren't any loose hoses or anything. Also the engine didn't die. It was honestly like I pulled the throttle back and was idling. Then when I hit it again it took right off. It only did this once or twice and then later that day once we checked everything we probably ran it for another hour or so with no problems. I'll let yall know if it does it again. Would a fuel pump be under warranty?

It potentially is a throttle position sensor error. Your dealer should be able to get the codes and repair it. I had the exact same problem on my '05 X-45.
