Just curious if any of you fish from your MasterCraft?

I never have, and never will, thats why they make fishing boats.

On vacations we would drop a line for 10-15 minutes and then they kids would say...can we tube or ski instead? So we'd ditch the poles. All in all I think we've fished about 25 minutes from our MC :)

When people ask, I usually say we sometimes fish, but we don't slow the boat down so we don't catch much at 36 mph 8p

I have some neighbors that love to fish(well every other neighbor has a bay boat, it seems) but one in particular always always always asks me when the boat is out, "hey, you been fishing?" It's either hispanic humor or he truly has no idea what a ski boat is.

Yes we have dropped a line or two while having lunch in a cove. In fact, the first time we took the boat out, we stopped for lunch and as I was eating and the kids were swimming in the cove, I hooked a large catfish. Well, it scared the heck out of my daughter. We continue to fight her fears of fish and getting in the water to this day!!! Needless to say, no more fishing poles get loaded into the boat.

I did once or twice when I moved onto a new lake and didn't know many people - it was a great ski night so I just kinda hung out by the course fishing until someone else showed up. The fish I caught didn't get past the platform and the soap on board for bindings took care of the smell...

one time whle filling the boat at the gas station some guy asked if i was going out sailing.

Hehe, I've had a couple guys ask me what the point of the big roll bar on the boat was for.

Never done any fishing...... but I've fed them a few times learning new tricks.

When we bought our boat and invited my father-in-law out, he asked if he can bring his fishing poles. I said, yeah you can bring them...even bring them to the lake if you want! But they will NEVER see the INSIDE of our boat!!!

But I was nice about it...I did offer to pull him and his poles in a tube to a nearby cove! ;)

Absolutely not. I do not like finding fish hooks with my bare feet.

In fact, I have a nice little reminder (read scar) on my sholder where a treble hook got stuck in my sholder. It reminds me all the time that fishing and too many people in any boat is not a good idea.

Yes, we always have rods and tackle box on board for when we stop. Kids like seeing what they can catch. Caught 2 lb white striped bass earlier this spring. Definitely catch and release.

I don't fish in my boat. I can drink beer and relax just fine without the added headaches of having fishing gear along for the ride.

On a side note I found this emicon that kind of fits this thread

I keep two telescoping poles and power bait in the boat for bored kids during the lunch/dinner breaks. No fishing for us in the Delta but a trip to any lake is usually a dawn to dusk trip for us. Here is my youngest after hauling in a mighty Blue Gill. His older brother was sitting on the bow moments later and hooked a whopper ;) (probably at least 18 ounces) and it pulled him off the bow and into the water. :purplaugh

/I bet the toolman keeps a couple of Pocket Fisherman and a whole set of those "Banjo Lures" on his boat :D .

We used to keep a couple of Snoopy poles in the 'ol 81 Stars and Stripes when the kids were little. It lowers the parental stress level quite a bit if you cut the hooks off the crappie jigs. I don't think it really cut down on their chances of catching something too much .......

My neighbor (great guy) is a big freshwater fisherman. He has a Triton with the trolling motor, etc, etc. He is forever trying to tell me how much better his boat is for all water applications. The other day I was telling him about the bat turn. Well of course according to him he can turn his boat at 55mph all the way and it will turn on a dime. I just chuckled. If I get him in my boat this summer I'm going to have to make a point. ;) Actually I'd love for him to let me ski behind it because I would pull so hard that I would have the a$$ of that boat all over the river.

bradamerry
05-24-2005, 10:29 PM
Brian, I have fished and drove boats like his... Not even close, his boat will turn at 55mph., but it will take the whole lake to do it, as it is skipping across the water. Triton is the MC of the bassboat world..

BriEOD
05-24-2005, 10:31 PM
Oh, I'm not disputing that it isn't a nice boat. Its just not comparing oranges to oranges. He'll kill me in top end, etc. But, the handling, hole shot, etc doesn't even come close. You can't tell him that though. ;)

I don't use a fishing pole but this time of year I hit them all the time when I hydrofoil (sky ski). The little ones aren't so bad but the bigger ones are like hitting a log.

Most of the time they float to the top by the time the boat circles so you get to see what you hit, usually not a pretty sight.

It's hard to believe you have to give your kids fishing poles to keep them busy in the down time. The minute I turn my motor off and shout ok, every kid in the boat goes over the side. And I have to begum to get back in! :) NO fishing from my boat.

Not in my MC but I regularly fished and crabbed in the Chesapeake Bay in my old Nautique. Not much room I learned when my ex-father-in-laws Jitter Bug hooked me in the side of the head. He completed his full on cast nearly launching me out of the boat. Longer hair back then saved me.

NO, I would never fish in my MC!! I get nervous if I am at a marina and a fish pole gets anywhere near my boat! Thats what fishin boats are for. This reminds me of when me and my buddies brought my MC home when I bought it. We stopped at Cabelas in Dundee, MI and my friend bought a fishing rod and reel for his brother. so the 2 smart arses checked out before me and got out to the boat, took the fish pole and set it up on my MC out in the parking lot like it was in a pole holder trolling and of course took pictures to rub it in further that yes, a fishing pole was actually ON my MC. It was funny, and I LMAO in the parking lot. Those retards know how to agitate me. :D Good times!

I read these posts with a smile. I am a watersports junkie and only have need for that. However, my two youngest boys (ages 5 and 8) have said repeatedly that they want to fish. They also love watersports.

There is no way that I'm buying another boat, so, unless I can find a good dock, I may well be fishing off the boat at some point in the future.

When I was a kid my dad would take us fishing out of the boat. I'm mean its family time, have to cherish that more than the boat. He would also take us in the middle of the lake on windy days and fly kites out of the boat. That was always pretty fun, especially with the trick kites.

My niece fishes out of my boat. Sept no hook on the end. Just a weight, she was 3 so it was easy to get away with it. Lol

Not joking. Probably not the best use off my ski boat........ But we had to get to the ducks! We only shot out of it once. That really didn't work so we anchored and set up in weeds a ways away. I've since restored the boat and wouldn't think of doing it now. But for that winter it was the only boat I had.

We've done it more than once. No need to bring fish into the boat. My concern was always more about not getting hooks in the upholstery. I've also skied behind a bass boat when it was all that was available. Had a tracker with a 40 HP evinrude. An old ski washed up on shore and we couldn't resist. Got a hunk of rope and an old broom handle. My uncle had to do a circle around me to get on plane, keeping the rope fairly tight. We he straightened out I popped right up. Needless to say the ladies were impressed and I spent 10's of minutes dealing with the groupies.
