For those of you with a Saltwater Series MCX -- what engine coolant temps are yours running at?
Well ballasted runs at about 3800 rpms results in about 170-174 engine coolant temps underway in mid-70ies water on our X-Star.
Cools back down to 160 pretty quickly when back to idle.
Just curious what others are seeing?

Sounds about right, but I have the 5.7 Crusader in a Maristar 200.
160-170 degs...with a 6.0L crusader in a 2007 xstar ss

mine runs a steady 160 regardless of load or water temp (water is always less than 72 though).

2008 X-15 SS with the MCX, pretty consistant at 160, surfing its a little higher. I had some issues with the closed cooling when i first got it and it was hot, 170+, but it ended up jsut being air in the system. Might wanna check it out.

Thank you all for responses.
How would one check for air in (bleed?) the system? I thought once it had run a few cycles and the antifreeeze overflowed in the clear tank and then sucked back in that this would have purged any air?

Check out this post for burping technique:

The overflow tank should usually have antifreeze in it. There is a cold and hot level, when the engine is cold the antifreeze should be to that level. Burping is simple. Im sure the link explains it all. Email or PM me if you have any further problem. I went through this exact problem.

haha, weird thats my link, follow that and you should be good!

Thank you for pointers guys.
Two follow up questions --
High-point of risers are above fill neck on heat exchanger, so running with open cap it would seem to me to let air in rather than take air out of the system as the coolant overflows?
A temperature difference of ~10 degrees or so running under load versus idle doesn't seem that dramatic -- that is I am not convinced I have air in the system in the first place? Do yours sit right at 160 always, no matter what rpms?

Ever since I burped my system i have been no higher than 165 unless surfing for hrs. then it gets to about 170 or so but not all the time. You may be fine, have you gone above 170, any alrams gone off?? Usually when u have air in the system it will overheat at idle not at running speeds, well at least with my experience. So u might be good to go. Good luck. Have u checked your strainer. might have some debris in it?

I wil double check - but it seems like my temp bumps a bit little over 160 when I am cruising for longer distances at 30mph or so. The temp just sit a little higher, it doesn't keep increasing - so I didn't think it was a problem.
I have an 09 X15 SS with the 350 HP motor

That would be consistent with our 08 350 SS. Temp slowly climbs when run harder, but tops out and stays steady at about 10-14 degrees higher than 160. Then quickly backs down to 160 when at idle.
My experience is mostly with raw water cooled, so was just curious to see what other fully closed systems do. I would think it takes some doing cooling the manifolds around the CATS...
