Ok so I'm trying to get an order together for my 01 X30...
All 4 interior speakers are blown, tower speakers have seen better days, sub is pathetic, and the head unit no longer plays CDs well...
I'm normally a keep everything one brand kind of guy, but it looks like I'm setting myself up for a mutt of a stereo system!!
Was really trying to find a different brand other than the new clarion head unit that I liked, but no such luck.. So for now we will say the Clarion CMD6 is the winner...
I would like to keep the 'white on white' color for the speakers in the interior of the boat... I think the "JL Audio Marine MX650-CCX-CG-WH (White with Classic Grilles)" look decent.. and 60W RMS isn't horrible...
For the tower I'm going to reuse my existing cans or get a cheap set off of ebay and try and run a couple "Polk Audio MM651UM"
If I have the room I would like to use a 12" Sony Xplod sub that I have layin around along with its class D amp seeing that it is free...
Hopefully the stock clarion amps would be up to the challange of pushing the tower polks and the other pushing the interior speakers... Not sure what the model numbers are on them to even look for the specs...
Any reason why this wouldn't work out ok? I dont need a powerhouse system, but something that can be heard while under way and not distort like crazy!!
Any input welcome!
Thanks!

All sounds like good choices to me. I don't have a lot of input on most of those things, but check out the Ebay link below for some nice affordable cans. I just bought and installed a pair of these in my boat along with some Infinity 6.5" that sound great (loud enought to hear while boarding, yet very clear and non-distorted).

I just bought and installed the CMD6 and love it. I'm only using USB memory keys and they work great. I bought a couple of the Corsair 4GB keys from NewEgg computer because they have a rubber jacket and top that'll keep the sand and grit out. $9 after MIR.....

The only down side so far has been the lack of a remote, which BTW if you have one installed now you'll need to change out as the old one is not compatible. Worse yet I'm being told the new MW1 won't be available until the end of June.
Not sure what model amps you have but the old ones I had in my last boat seemed to work well. Sounds to me like you're off to a good start. Good luck.

I currently have this Clarion head unit but have noticed it is a little difficult to navigate within the Ipod menu.

I am going to try and sell the Clarion and upgrade to the Alpine unit. I have the similar version in my Suburban and do like the way it's layed out.

bnold,
I'm onboard with everything except for the Polk tower speakers. The dBs by Polk are a great under-$100 a pair speaker. The MM series are certainly an upgrade with a smoother response. The MM series are a great in-boat speaker but project poorly from the tower.
If you want a tower speaker that is articulate beyond the swimdeck, choose a speaker that is voiced more aggressively on the top end. For a moderately priced 6 1/2" coaxial that will retro into your existing pods, look into the Bullet HollowPoint Coaxials. They're priced similarly to the Polk MM. Ultimately, most people will recommend HLCDs for wakeboarding range but it sounds like these are beyond the budget. You might also check out the Kicker KMT6. Each pair have four 6 1/2" midbass and a set of horns. They're not quite on par with HLCDs but they're inexpensive and cost-efficent to power.

Appreciate the responses...
I ordered the CMD6 with a new remote and extension
Also ordered the JL audios for the interior..
After reading the above I'll do a bit more research on the tower speakers

I put 4 of the MMs on my tower this winter. I've only been surfing once so far this year and they did great for that. When I pulled my daughters in the tube I faded to the tower and jacked up the volume. I know that they could hear the music because they were singing along. I asked my 9 year old how the music sounded and she said great. I'll have to wait and see how these work at wakeboard distance. I picked the four cans and speakers up on Ebay for $350 which is almost what I paid for the 4 MMs that I bought for my 1998 Toyota pick up back in 1998. I'm pushing these four cans with two channels of a Soundstream TRA 680.4.
