reinstall mufflers, need help

I pull out my mufflers to change out the exhaust hose and need help in determining which way is up. if you look through the muffler a little more than half of the circle is blocked with baffles the other half is ope straight through from one end to the other. Is the open part of the circle down or up ?

My two thoughts are if it is up then the water flow is baffled more and will have to flow up and over each baffle.

Second thought if it is down then the water flow will close the gap off and create more of a true baffle.

I need some expert advice here.

The open part is down and the baffels are on top side. Atleast on my ps190.

OK that makes sense to me, since the other way they would trap water over the winter as well.
