does anyone use a 4runner to tow with? I'm looking at '05 with the v8 and tow pkg. Thanks for the help.

I tow a 2008 X2 with a 4.4L BMW X5, and I am in the market for a new car. I thought the X5 would be more than enough, but it really is too much boat for the car on anything but short trips. 4Runner I would think would be worse. I like the toyota's, was thinking about maybe a Land Cruiser. That said, I live in the NW and we got some big elevation changes. If I was towing in the Midwest or South, I bet just about any SUV with a V8 would do the job.
4 Runners are great vehicles, I had one years ago. As for towing an x2, I'd say no way, you might have the power to pull with the v8 but the weight of the boat and trailer will push that thing all over the road. I just recently saw a 4runner on it's side on the 10 fwy with a little toyhauler on it's side right behind it, the wind blew it over which pulled the car with it.

Ditto what COZ said, getting it started is the easy part, keeping it in a straight line and stopping it are the more critcal issues.

Yeah I would go with a Tahoe or something more full size. I just got an X2 and was amazed with how heavy the boat is, also so wide that with a 4 runner there is no way you would be able to see around the boat, the 4 runner is real narrow.

I tow with a v8 4x4 4runner and it's fine. Don't get me wrong - I'm not about to take it on any 100 mile adventures but to run my boat to the lake and the dealer - it's perfect. It handles well with the X2 behind, and it certainly stops pretty sharply too. You won't be setting any land speed records but it does the job in my opinion.
If you're anywhere near NC and want to see how the 4 runner & X2 do together, come try it out!
With all that said, if someone were to offer me an 09 F150 then i'd take it!

I agree and disagree with Tom. I tow my 2005 X2 with a v8 4Runner, it does well. I recently pulled a 2006 X-15 with my 4Runner 100+ miles, it did great. MC trailers are nice to work with. Only thing I noticed is the X-15 seemed to weigh more than the advertised 500 lbs or so MC claims on their website. (X-1 3,050 lbs, X-15 3,575) X-15 felt 750 to 1,000 lbs heavier than my boat! Just means you have to step on the gas a little more to get going, stopping seemed the same........
I disagree with Tom b/c I would take the new Dodge over the Ford :)

ORX-1 is correct, coming from a 2004 Tundra, it is harder to see around pulling with the 4Runner, but still doable......

You've GOT to be kidding?

Towed my X2 from San Antonio to (beyond) Detroit with a (seems like a four banger) trail blazer. Dual axles....... whatever. I'd put an X2 behind an 85 diesel Chevette if it had a tow kit.

I would take the Tundra over the Dodge, for resale alone. IMO, this year Dodge has done more to improve their truck than Ford has. Also a fan of the front of the Dodge over the Ford. In my mind, you disagreeing only further proves my point ;)

I purchased the new F150 (crew, 4x4, King Ranch) and it is one sweet truck.
