I have read a bunch of reviews and seen a few posts on here about slalom skis. Seems like everything i have seen leaves the Concept out. I am assuming maybe for a reason:confused:

I'm just getting back into the sport after 10+ years of being out of it. back then we ran the course, and we ran it with a Connelly Concept. seemed like a good ski.

Anyone have any opinions on this ski? Anyone running this ski?

the Concept blemished skis are at a good price.

I am looking to buy a a new ski and am leaning towards the Monza now.

i am 6'-1" about 195lbs and am a failry aggressive skier. not sure on the length of ski because every chart says 67-68 for my size. would one length be more aggressive than the other?

Not a lot of love for the Monza here from what I've read. Doesn't like anything but glass, and takes a lot of dialing in.

I am 6'1 185lbs and ski a Monza (2007) and like it. I agree though, it doesn't do well in rough water. I ski a private lake and only go out when there is no wind, so it's not an issue for me. When I go to Lake Powell or anothe body of water I take another ski for the specific reason of water conditions. Monza is very quick and not very forgiving. If you are skiing well it's all good, if you not in the grrove that day the Monza can be a nightmare. Concept is a heavier ski, at least they used to be. Monza is very light. I had my boots off the other day and could hardly tell I had the ski in my hands. I suppose it's the carbon fiber construction. Good luck with getting back into the sport.

The F1X is what I am skiing. I'm not that good. But it'll get you through the course up to 22 off and I use it in some pretty rough water.

And I paid under $500 for it new with Wileys double high wraps a back in '06.

I was trying to buy a system 8 at the time and couldn't find one. The owner of wileys talked me into the F1X and I don't regret it.

I'd consider the F1 if I were any better.

Another vote for the F1X im not great but fairly aggressive (depending on the beers that day) and it does well and is forgiving. I have skied an older concept and like that ski as well, not sure what the major differences are in the F1X and the concept on the new skis

since i won't be on a private lake - maybe i will reconsider my choice. is there a more forgiving ski that will still be as fast and have proffesional style capabilities???

I think the price alone is worth looking at the Concept. I was looking at the blems with the Double Stokers. I ride an F2 with Double Stokers now and I'd say it is above my ability. No matter how hard I ride it, it still sticks. It doesn't like being flat, that's for sure. I would expect similar performance from the Concept. I haven't heard too many negative opinions on it. I really do need to ski one myself, though. Good luck.

i guess forgiving isn't the best way to describe what i want.
the f1x sounds like it might be closer to what i want.
with just getting back into the sport i really dont want to break the bank on a new ski. middle of the road. i could spend $500-$600 on a setup but $300-$400 sounds a little better.

The Concept is still a great ski. I just don't think that it gets as much hype because it has been around for so long (marketing I suspect). My son still skis my old one and it performs great. Switched to the F1 a few years ago and love the performance of that ski, but the Concept is much more forgiving and will let you ride it flat if you desire. I think you will still get a lot of bang for the buck with the Concept.:twocents:

I know that it all depends on rider ability but I can remember skiers on our boat running the course at 15'-22' off and making it look effortless on the Concept. just wondered if there was much better technology out there now and could possibly get into a better ski for the course now without spending a fortune.

There is a super deal on a Monza (used two seasons) in the marketplace now if you decide to go used: http://www.mastercraft.com/market/showproduct.php?product=2857&cat=9 :D

I used to work at a place that sold Connelly Skis. I must say we sold more concepts than anything else. The way i see it, If you are skiing 22'off or less it's a great ski that will still let you go out and have fun when its not perfect conditions. Its what i have been skiing on for the past 5 years. I can run15'off and hope to get deeper into 22'off soon.
If you are past that 22 level everyone seems to go with something else. F1 etc...

I've been skiing on a Concept (a 68" blem with Double Stokers that I bought from Overton's) for 3 years. Like Damage442 said, I can ski it as hard as I can and it just sticks. My ski buddy skiis on a 12 year old Concept and he thought mine was more aggressive than his old one. I couldn't really tell a lot of difference, but he has more experience than me.

I am 6'0", 190 lbs. The 68" ski works well for me. I can't see outgrowing this Concept any time soon. For the price ($350 shipped, if you find a discount code for Overtons), I'd buy one and try it. If you don't like it, Overton's will take it back, but the return shipping could be prohibitive.

I considered demoing skis at my local shop, but they had a meager selection so I decided to try out the Concept - I'm glad I did.

Wiley's is a good place to buy from - big place with a lot of selections.

MC of Charlotte has excellent pricing, but I'm not sure if they carry Connelly.
