how fast do most of you like to wakeboard? depending on how smooth the water is.........i tend to like speeds of around 17 on smooth and 15 or so on rough. my buddy likes to run around 22 on smooth and 20 in the rough, that seems awful fast when watching him......its like he is waterskiing instead of wakeboarding. just curious to see what speeds people with more experience use. thanks- jim

Me and my brothers all like to wakeboard between 20 and 22. Sometimes we take it up to 24 and see who can do the biggest superman

I normally ask for 18-20, but think it also depends on how sharp you can cut and what you are trying to do. I have a 142 size Hyperlite board.

22-24 with 65' of rope.

21-22 mph

But the answers to this question may not help you much unless you can confirm the calibration of everybody's speedos. My 2003 ProStar 209 was off 2 mph when it came from the dealer. Have calibrated to GPS since then.

The more weight in the boat and the longer the line length - the faster you need to go. I ride at 23mph at 75'. If you are at a shorter line length and don't have a heavily weighted boat you can go slower and the wake won't wash out.

The PS190 Doesnt have much of a wake so we tend to go faster then i'd like about 23. We ususaly have people in the back seat and a full tank of gas when we try to wakeboard. But we only wakeboard when its rough! :purplaugh

Hey Sled,

To a large degree, it's dependant on your wake - i.e. at what speed is it at it's best shape?

I agree, its best to go off the wake. for me it normally ends up being about 20 or so. Hold that speed whenever the wake stops washing out. IF not, your not getting the most out of your wake.

18 if it's choppy; 20 if not - 65' of rope

We usually have about 2000 lbs, of ballast, 75-80 feet of rope, and 22-23 feet of rope.
If we use less ballast, the speed drops, and so does the rope length.

Are you guys always changing speeds while riding? I usually set the speed around 18 but find myself going up and down with rough water or different tricks.

Wow, times change (looking at my 2005 post). Most riding now is 21 - 24; 75 feet

Neil, Why the change?
We have allways rode at 65' or shorter and 18mph on boards. Mostly because we are slalom first and know nothing about what we are doing on wake boards:D and don't have any one to teach us how to ride them.
