Hi everyone,
As stated I'm a photographer in NYC and am looking to get into watersports photography. I was a water-ski/wakeboard instructor at a B&B all through high school and part way through college and miss the water! I was a film major at the Savannah College of Art and Design but have drifted to photography. Now I want to mix two of my passions and get some killer shots and make my way into some mags. At this point I'm just looking to practice and build my portfolio so I might need some patience while I figure out what works and what doesn't. I will have a requirement of having someone that is comfortable going wake to wake and some tricks would be a bonus. I will be posting hosting the pictures online and if there are any you want printed I have a good connect good deals on BIG prints of these pictures if you want. If you want to see some of my work I some pictures posted HERE (http://gallery.me.com/turboale#100048&view=grid&bgcolor=black&sel=1) .

If you have any questions or want a basically free photoshoot feel free to email me at turboale/at/mac.com (sorry no link, avoiding spam...)

Here are some quickies I grabbed last year on lake Sinclair in GA. Now I have better equipment including lighting and a waterproof housing so we will be able to get a lot more creative. Not to mention these were quick edits...

very nice photo's... I've been tinkering with photography the last few years and have really enjoyed taking pictures at NASCAR races and trying to figure out how to sell them or get them published in a mag.

I'm working on it! ;)

D3,
The way the pros do it is to compile a portfolio of only your best images and have them printed and then send them out to any mag you think would be interested. Printing can get expensive quick but at the same time you don't want to skimp out on it b/c you want it to look as good as possible. This is why on a pro level $1000+ printers start to make sense... After a few 1000 copy runs of your portfolio you have paid for the unit. You don't have to start with a huge number but once you get something together your proud of, have a few printed up and send out a few and see if you hear back.

Very cool looking photo!! You do have some nice skills with the photos. But, the guy sitting on the bow rail while the boat is in motion is just asking for it. As a bonus to this photo, everyone is drink a Coors Light!

I could help you with that! :D

Seriously, send me a PM. We ride on the Delaware river about a 1 hour 15 min train ride from Penn station. (Hamilton station) A friend of mine (who kills it behind the boat BTW) takes the train down every weekend for some riding sessions. I'm sure he could get you some nice shots, and he would love to see some good riding shots of himself.

Are you just looking to shoot wakeboarders? I ski at a three event site 60 miles North of NYC. Nobody wakeboards, just slalom, trick,& jump.

Maybe you have seen this site maybe not: for insight into serious amateur and pro photography try www.fredmiranda.com/forum. I have learned a TON from spinning thru the boards over there. I needed a bunch of help shooting indoor sports and found plenty of tips and input. You'll find some info about commercializing your hobby as well, not sure how much because I'm not going that direction. If you get gutsy and feel like exposing your work over there you can get lots of serious critique.... seems to be a very interesting community.

I am sure looking forward to getting back in the boat and shooting the kids this summer!

Awesome!
I'm totally pumped, this has made my day!

NJ Skier,
I'm totally down and would love to head out with you guys. I will PM you my contact info...

mcantamessa,
I'm still a skier at heart, but love them both and would love to get some of that as well. I will pm you my contact info as well!

3event,
The FM forums have been a fav for quite some time now, there is quite a lot about sports photography there and it has helped me quite a bit as well. Hopefully i'll be posting the stuff I grab with these guys on there if all goes well! I'll of course be posting up here as well.

Thanks for getting back with me guys, sorry I haven't checked this as often as I should. After the first few days I didn't know if I was going to get any hits.

Cheers!
