I went to change the impeller on my prostar 197 this weekend. I took the cap off the housing, but wasn't sure how to get the old one out. Is there some kind special tool to remove it or what is the best way to get it out.
thanks;
tom

It just pulls out. I use a pair of needlenose vise grips. Give it a squirt of WD40 and turn it over for a couple of seconds with the safety lanyard pulled so it can't start if it is stubborn.

either use needlenose or a pair of those paint can openers works well.

I had no idea these things could get so stubborn. I helped friends/family with this before and they always pretty much came right out.

I changed mine on my new boat recently and it was a bear. Get some lube on the spline and the rubber fingers.

On a direct drive, should be fairly straightforward, but it can take some wrestling. The two paint can openers to hook the backside is the most commonly reported method, but if you don't mind spending $60, an impeller removal tool will make short work of the whole problem.

No complaining until you try the 04 x30, right mac??Agreed. MasterCraft designers gave absolutely no consideration to that little problem when they decided that the Silentmaster muffler was a good idea.
