The other day we went out to the lake. As i was loading the boat with the boards i set my friends hyperlite down on my back cushion and heard a rip. At that moment i knew what i had done. Those dang hyperlite boards and there pointy fins! Not a bad rip maybe an inch long no more then an inch and a half. Should i take it to the dealer to get it repaired? take the cuchion off and take it to an upholstry shop or does any one know of a good repair technique??

My first rip and i guess im glad it was me and not somone else.:(

I like factory stuff, but if you can find an upholstry shop that can do it right, I'm sure you could save some bucks going that way.

Hard to recommend without seeing a picture of the tear.

I probobly would recommend a upholstry shop. Most likley your dearler dosnt do upholstry repairs themself and subs it out to a good local upholstry shop anyway.

Also, you always have the replacement $kin option also.

Mastercraft sells replacement skins(the vinyl). You can buy the skin and then just have a shop take your entire old vinyl off and put the new one on.

If it's a small tear, you can probably get it patched without replacing the entire skin. Since yours is white, it shouldn't be too hard matching the color thought the patch may still be barely visible if you're looking for it. The dealer where I bought my (used) boat had several small nicks repaired that way before I picked it up.

It can most likely be repaired. When I picked up my 197 a few years ago there was a small tear on about an inch long and L shaped. The dealer had the Vinyl Doctor fix it the next day and you could not tell that it had been fixed. I have no idea how they do it....

If the vinyl is in good shape other than the cut, you should be good to go with having it repaired. There are "do-it-yourself" kits or as JohnE said, a shop will handle it quickly and make it pretty hard to notice.

There is a vinyl repair company in our town that is killer. You don't see it when they are done and very affordable. You might check Yellow Pages or ask a few resturants with vinyl booths, that is where this company gets most of their work. I had a small repair done and it was $30.00 I would think that is way cheaper than replacement.
