.......although this one is pretty simple.

The original head unit in my boat is/was a pretty good Clarion at the time (10 years old), and it now has a cd loader issue. From what I have been told it is more cost effective to buy a new one than repair the old one. Heck, even my dealer told me to check out e-bay. So I did. Anyone have any opinions/experience with any of these.

I'm mostly just worried about sound quality (duh!). I have heard some cheaper head units that just sound like crap. The prices of these have gone down so I have no real frame of reference as to what you are getting for what you are paying for. I am guessing if it is a Clarion it is probably pretty good.

So far I like the second one the best.

Thank you for enduring yet another stereo thread.

I was being serious about the alpine damn fine unit and better output like double than the clarion. Going on year 3 with it and the clarion lost a channel of the two after a year or so. I was not going back down the clarion road.

Now is that better????

They have remotes now for your transom too. and a waterproof one I believe for floating behind the boat having a diet iced tea.

I'll look at Alpine. Is there a good middle of the road one you can recommend?

I have Clarion speakers so they won't match! What is a Tree-hugger to do?

Wow pricey, but I replaced the clarion remote twice and it still went bonkers when it got wet.

I have an off brand atlantic technologies now and its been perfect.

The first unit only has 4 RCA outputs, and the second one only has 2 RCA outputs, I think you are going to want 6 outputs for your boat. Even if you don't need them now, you can have the flexibility of upgrading later. I would go for the third.

or better yet, go Alpine.

TX,

Have you found the remote yet? It seems as though this hasn't been release in wide scale numbers. If you did find the MC10 remote let me know how it works.

Just saw it on crutchfiels site, very nice looking unit, not sure it will work with me head unit. I would like to get the lcd screen back.

I believe it only works with the two Alpine Marine units listed. I thought you purchased the 9886 that was in your post?

The install guy's made that one out of starboard or some like stuff.

Played the stereo in the driveway over 2 days at least 6hrs. they do hold a good charge.

If I do that with the optima in line too it will drop below 11.5 in 30min from a full charge.

No mine was done just before they released the marine stuff.

Now I would go with the marine unit but mine never gets wet so not much difference than a car. I used car amps too like someone said if they get wet in there that will be the least of my worries. :D

Looks like you have a local electrical substation there. If a mouse gets in there and gets fried the whole neighborhood will go dark!

The output from them has to add 3 to 5 mph to the top speed.

I did put 175lbs. lead on the other side. that and 125lbs in the bow so 475lbs of lead shot and batteries may explain why I am satisfied with the stock ballast.
