Hey Gents...
I was wondering what your thoughts are on a bank repo? Obviously you wouldn't have things like mantinence & service records but besides that are there any other reasons why I should steer clear of a repo boat?
Thanks!

Depends on a lot of things but from the bank repo position, I would treat it like any other used boat I would purchase and be strict about not overlooking things. Things like service records, compression test, hours should be considered. Check hull for scratches, repairs to gel coat... You can tell a lot by what the boat looks like and interpret how the boat was cared for. Can you test drive it? That could be very telling. If you can find out where the boat was serviced, they may have some 'inside' scoop. I found a lot of interesting history on boats/PWC's by finding out who sold and serviced the boat to/for the previous owner.

My first boat was a repo and awesome.
Have the boat looked over by a mechanic and change all the fluids before use, if the seller has not already done it.
My boat was in great condition for a repo. Give it a good once over and you can be able to tell what type of care it was given.

Being from the midwest make sure it was either winterized or stored in a heated garage. Locally there is a bu boat at a University Credit Union that is a repo and is still on the books but it disappeared over the winter so someone I assumed they took care of keeping it warm !!!

What Propor said.......What kind of boat are you looking at? Can you visually inspect it?

I would make sure everything is still there. It seems that when people know they are going to lose something they take anything off of it they can. There was a guy on here last summer trying to sell stuff his buddy took off of his boat that was being repoed. I would be worried about general maintenance. If they couldn't pay for the boat, did they pay for maintenance? My guess is probably not:confused::rolleyes:

My first 1988 Mastercraft ProStar190 was a repo and other than the previous owner not taking care of the interior of the boat the boat was a cherry !!! The boat is now owned by my ex brother-in-law still has the boat today and it is run hard every summer !!!!

Mine wasn't a repo but it was at a Pawn Shop and was being sold on Ebay. I had a mechanic check it out from top to bottom and then bought it. It has been a blast with no problems at all! Just do your homework.

Well its out in Cali, so its a little bit hard for me to take a look at her. But with what they are asking it might be worth the trip, from the pictures that I've seen everything is intact. Speakers, carpet, bimini, racks, it doesn't look as if anything was taken.
The only biggie that I can see is there are no service records at all. Otherwise it looks like a steal!

I am not going to play 20 questions.
Throw the name if you want help. If not, good luck and I wish you the best with your purchase.

RedRob,
I'm guessing you're looking at this boat or the X-45 they have:

Not many secrets out there.
I know you are relatively new to the site, but we are all here for similar reasons! If I were you I would trust Sodar, have him take a look at the boat, Sodar will give you feedback, probably even a price he thinks you can buy it for! Buy it, ship it and buy Sodar a steak dinner!

It's repo boat season again. I admit this post is quasi-spam, but if you guys are serious about finding repo boats check out RepoFinder.com (http://repofinder.com). It's basically a free list of all the banks and credit unions in america who are selling repos to the public. Just click on your state and then scroll down for the list.

I'm pretty sure hes talking about this X Star in San Jose, CA. He might be trying to hide the whereabouts so he can get the "steal of a deal" Its pretty ruff on the bottom with some nicks to the glass. Also it clearly states that the stero and speakers are gone.

This isn't the boat being sold by the Orange County branch of the First National Bank of Nigeria is it?
Serriously, remember the old adage about how if something seems to be too good to be true...

No.No. Its an actual repo boat from Patelco Credit Union. The buy it now is set @ $44k. You can call Patelco and they will give you the details. The boat is not worth any where close to $44 it is missing interior panels some billet pieces and is pretty ruff in spots with some through the gel coat nicks.
