My prop and rudder have dulled from being in the water. I want to bring back the luster from when it was new, but was unsure what I should use. Any suggestions?

i've used this on my rudder based of harold's advice. works good, but not sure about the prop. i bought a new one and didn't bother trying it on the backup.

Mothers polish works well. I have done it once but with as dirty as the water is around here one time in the lake and it was back to its old dull look.

I have had good luck with Lime-Away (green bottle). Wipe it on and the tarnish disappears almost immediately. Wash with water then lightly buff with some fine polish. Also works good on galvanized and stainless bolts on the boat and trailer.

I've had good luck with brasso on other things, not sure about underwater gear

I normally spray some acidic cleaner on the running gear to just brighten them up. I honestly believe that 1 day in the water would ruin the best polishing job... the water here is just too gross.

I would absolutely love some SS Running gear, but I cannot come up with $1200 for a set!

Make sure you get that thing posted when it gets done!

I would imagine that your 197 is probably 1 of about 10 built this year, aside from the TT Boats. :)

Now, UMP is short for Upper Michigan Prostar190 (http://www.mastercraft.com/teamtalk/member.php?u=2114). UMP is a long standing member of the board and a little on the cheap side. He enjoys $.99 Stores and long walks through Wal-Mart.

If it is one out of ten being built lets hope that quality control is in place and it looks great when I get it....I'm looking forward to the "held to a higher standard" thing...

And thanks for explaining UMP to me...I figured it was some long standing member...

Is that what they get for SS props for these boats? I used SS on my last boat (mercruiser) because you had to if you wanted performance, I think I paid $500 per. I've never really thought my current boat needed any kind of boost so I've stuck with the OJ brass and my spare is the exact same prop. Are the ss stiffer and what's the +'s, fuel? consistant speed?

I have to say  that's one MC item that seems like a very good deal, not over priced for all those goodies.

just curious... as i've discussed this w/ my boat owning friends... would running a SS prop be somewhat of a danger due to the fact that if you were to (God forbid) hit some immovable object w/ the prop spinning be more likely to do damage to the tranny, shaft, and/or strut?

i had always assumed the props were generally brass b/c it is a very malleable alloy and when used in this application the prop would give way first sparring further damage to the more expensive equipment
