I was planning to do a little preventative maintenance while putting on my new prop. I want to change the strut bearing on my 81 S&S but don't know which O.D. to order. I have a powerslot, so I know the I.D. is 1 1/8 but I need to order either 1 3/8 or 1 1/2 O.D.

Does anyone have some idea ? I would measure it but the boat is 150 miles away and I would like to bring the right part the first time.

Jimmer, In DIM defence Vince was tied up on other calls. So their main database was unavailable so to speak.

Welcome to the board jkc. I appreciate your input. 1980 is pretty close for me. Was yours a powerslot as well ?

jkc was your strut ever replaced by any chance ? I finally got Vince on the line and he is fairly certain that the O.D. is 1 1/2, he thought maybe your strut was replaced with an Action Marine Strut that is carried to replace the original, the only difference between the two is supposed to be the O.D. is 1 3/8 on the replacement.
I ordered the 1 1/2 and hope it fits when I finally get up to the boat.

Well I spent last Friday getting the boat ready for the weekend.
The 1-1/2 x 1-1/8 strut bearing I ordered from skidim was exactly the right part, Vince was right once again.

I had to remove my rudder to pull the drive shaft on my 81 powerslot, I changed out he bearing and the packing and then installed my new ACME 3 blade 801 (13-1/2x17-1/2 ) replacing my old 14x18 .

This prop is great, better hole shot and consistent top end. I did not have GPS to calibrate and will post more specifics later. The ACME also smoothed out the rooster tail.

I felt fortunate to be able to make it thru the maiden voyge without destroying the new prop, given the experience other have had.
