Finally got to start applying some oil. It was in rough shape. The before pic was actually after soaking in Starbright Teak cleaner for 10 -15 minutes or so and scrubbing with a gray scotch pad for about an hour or more.. and attempting to block sand part of it with 220 so the before pic doesnt do justice for what was really the original condition. After this, i let dry and went to sanding and after about 10 minutes i realized a belt sander with 80 grit and my DA with some 80 grit was required. The grains had some deviation so i wanted to cut it down flat on the 4" wide part around the outer part. It is evident on the before pic wher I block sanded with 220. My nieghbors dremel came in handy at the end, i guess he saw my raw finger tips and felt sorry for me sanding between the slotted parts. I have made it to 400 grit to date. This is it with 2coats of teak oil brushed on. I plan on hitting it with some 600 and adding some more oil, 1-2coats. not sure how fine i will go. I know from the "calling out Harold" thread some folks go to 1000 or 1200. Not sure if doing that will really pay off due to how mine is made with all the grooves. If i had a more flat platfom without all the grooves I'd probably do it though.

Beautiful. I just ordered a teak cleaner kit from Chicago MasterCraft (not StarBrite, they said it is better), hopefully next week I'll find some time to attack my teak.

That really looks nice! How long does it last in this like new condition?
Based on the ammount of work you have just put into it is there some more regular maintenance you will try to do?
Or, is it just something that is going to happen?
Just wondering if I should opt for the fiberglass swim platform. Starting to think it is like a deck. I went to the synthetic wood 5 years ago and havent had to touch it. Is the teak one of those Mastercraft things? Just wondering as I'm working on getting my first Mastercraft.

I wanted to get a fiberglass platform on ours... dealer talked me out of it because I have small children and the teak is supposedly easier on the kids knees and elbows than the inlay that is on the fiberglass. According to most I have talked to, the maintenence on the teak is not that time consuming if you start from day one, as opposed to trying to do "catch up" projuects all of the time.
I know there are others on here with vast experience with these... hopefully i can pick up some tips as well. :)

I forgot to mention its a 92 PS 205. The boat has been very well kept but I think when it came to the teak, not much elbow grease was used when the original owners cleaned it. It still has the original interior and not a blemish anywhere for example. They probably believed in the spray on spray off (like all cleaners advertise), then just put more teak oil on it which led to build up. Your question is a good one though, and I have wondered too since this will be my 3rd summer with the boat. I now have a dock and my cover does not stretch across the teak. So, during the summer it will be exposed to evening sun a great deal. I plan on having a cover sewn up for it, and in addition to that, i think regular cleaning and re-coating will be much easier for the next several years anyway. I hope!!

NICE WORK! I'm wondering about covering my teak also, as the sun can get to it even though the lift has a canopy. Is there a risk of mildew if you have a cover that stretches over the teak or if you use a separate cover for it? Any opinions or experience?

Well done. I'm doing my teak project this weekend too, I went with the Star Brite 3 step kit. Unfortunately there will be no power tools for me...

I also forgot the 'before' pic, but it was along the lines of Bamacraft's picture after sanding. I used the Star Brite kit (cleaner, brightener, & oil), & now my fingers are pretty raw.
