Hi All, Had My MC pro 190 out in the water Today after a few repairs, One of which was the fitting of a new teleflex control cable. The old one was faded at the control end so I replaced it. First I unscrewed the control box I then took a digital pic of the old cable and fittings so as to know where the new one goes, After I finished I ran her on the hose pipe and all seemed well with the throttle. The problem now is the throttle will not hold speed, its as if there's a spring somewhere and The shifter is returning to and holding at about 15 mph. I checked and double checked that the cable was fitted exactly as the old one but I,ve obviously missed something.
can anyone point out my mistake. All replies are appreciated Thanks
Abe.

I guess if all worked well before you changed cable, then it would seem to me something with the new cable is just not right. Your details seem to be vague...is the problem in the throttle lever or or the cable and what was faded? By the control box are you refering to the throttle lever housing?

I am very familiar with Morse controls, but am confused with your descrition of the problem. Post up your pics so we can see and maybe we could help

I am assuming the problem is the cable, the old one was faded at the throttle lever housing, and the throttle lever housing itself is very worn, the spring under the ball on the lever is weak and it is sticking a bit when easing back on the throttle to neutral. I am going to replace this as well. The boat is a 1990 model, Its my first mc I bought it last year from a dealer here in the UK, The engine is new as is most parts under the hood. hope this makes a bit more sense of the problem. Thanks

With the new cable actually working smoothly, the throttle return spring on the carb is actually doing it's job by pulling the throttle back near idle. The old cable probably had some additional friction to it that prevented it returning as it was originally designed to do.

I still have the old cable and will check to out. Thanks
