I'm pretty sure the wiring diagram is here, somewhere. Was the wiring torn out? If not, it should be correct and just a matter of attaching the black to the grounds, purple to ignition activated gauges, blue is illumination and red or orange is battery (12V constant). The fuel sender wire is pink, tach is gray. What else do you have?

TRBenj supplied Team Talk with this that may also help,

this is awesome! thank you very much! I bought this boat last summer and had my fiberglass and paint guy do some work on it. some of the gauges were inadvertently disconnected from the wiring!

After a lot of searching, I have found the wiring diagram that was on the good but defunct website skiboathelp.com.

This fits the older (85 and before) boats real close. I used it when I updated my 82.

Here is a much bigger version of the wiring diagram.

If you have a older boat, right click and save.

You can find the old website skiboathelp at http://web.archive.org/web/20020119144840/http://www.skiboathelp.com/

Thanks ski, I have been looking unsuccessfully for that for a while.

for you guys that have a 79 Mastercraft, I need to verify something before I complete my wiring on my gauges: my paint guy disconnected the wiring without labeling anything. I have one orange and one red wire both wired into the fuse panel. I believe they are supposed to connect to the ammeter, is this right?

03-30-2009, 09:44 PM
on my '79, i've got two fuse panel wires, one is red, the other is orange. I'm assuming these wire to the ammeter, is this right? thanks for the help! if anyone has a digital photo of the wiring underneath the console for a 79 mastercraft, I will buy you dinner or some type of payment to make it worth your time,

Are the Red and Orange wires much heavier gauge than the other wires?

03-30-2009, 09:59 PM
yes, they are heavier, thanks again for the help

I have a photo somewhere I took of the backside of the gauges I took before I disassembled my dash. It is 3 years newer than yours, but I bet the wiring is the same.

your the bomb! thanks

If ski_king doesn't find his pic, I can look under the dash of my '77 tomorrow afternoon.

Orange is Battery + and goes to the ammeter. The Red needs to be followed to find out where it goes and what it does. Then, after this is re-wired, staple the paint guy to a wall somewhere for not documenting the wiring.

on my 79 MC, I have some missing fuses on my panel, I know that I need 20 amp fuse for the ignition but I don't have anything to refer to for everything else. if anyone has a digital photo of the fuse panel and what size fuses go where that would be great!

I will be working on mine in the morning and will take a couple pics and get them on here ASAP.
