Hey has anyone built any sub boxes for behind the driver seat compartment. I thought about making a box that would fit behind the current 10" sub and that would hold a 12" wetsounds.

Anyone with any good ideas or pictures?

I have 2 down firing 12's in mine. Sounds pretty good. Not much pics will show except a box that takes up nearly all the space of that compartment.

Was measuring this weekend to see if I could fit a sigle 12" l7 in that stock location. No dice, about an 1" short on height.

Seems to me that in the x-45,x-30,x-15 to get ALOT of sub output, there needs to be either a vent cut out, or sub placement on the port side before the fold out door, or multiple subs cut out and placed on the sides below the seats. If there is a single 12" or dual 12" set up under the passenger seat, the vent will allow MAJOR volume to pass through, or if a sub is placed there, a great deal of output could be gained. I have a 08 x-30 and me and my friends have been trying all sorts of options with not a single victory. If anyone has a pic or diagram of a sub set up that you feel has tremendous output please post it. I have 2 NVS Entities and when u put 300watts on 1 of them most sub set ups will be overpowered by the towers, to sum it up....I need help as well.

I'm going with one, maybe two jl audio 12" w7 subs in the observer storage compartment of my 45. I think two may be too much, but could add cabins speaks later to balance. Think power, and quality subs. The w7s are 1000 watts rms each. I've heard a w6 pushed with 500 watts in the same location and it sounds great. Venting the compatment in some manner helps tremendously.

That compartment behind the driver's seat is a bear to put a box in. It is irregularly shaped, so I am not sure that putting any box there is going to be a job for anyone but a guy who really paid attention in shop class. (stealing Skeeler's line) I measured the area and I think a 12 inch sub cannot be put in the stock location because the location is too short. (agree wtih what was said above.).

I think the next best thing is to put it in the passenger's side and create a vent to let the sound out. I am currently dreaming how to do that.

06-This is in an 06-x2 right? What kind of sub? Curious on how many cubic feet you got from behind there it seems soo tight on my 08-x2.

Do you have any photos of behind the dash?

I had a stereo shop do it for me and its my belief that its a 12". It is covered from the front with the old compartment cover, but with it coming out the walk-throu, it puts out some thump. Yes it is an 06' x2.

I just picked up my new X45 and after a few brews, started thinking about a sound system upgrade. Like Endl, I wanted to replace the free-air JL sub behind the driver with a JL12w7 in a sealed box. Really tight with the heater and odd shape(s) and I didnt want to encroach any storage. The next best area is in front of the drivers feet. MC makes a removable bifold door to gain access into this area. I did the math and a JL13w7 in a sealed box will fit. Im going to either make an oblong oval shaped hole or several round holes covered with white fabric (to conceal) up high under the dash to hide the install and let out all the sound. Has anyone else with an X45 done something simular to this install? Lets hear about other systems!

IM still debating on where to put my 10w7. Im leaning for behind the drivers seat in place of the factory 10" sub, but am worried about water once in a while. Wish there was a waterguarded cover that would prevent me from looseing sq/spl.

1970-a 13w7 would be nuts (sweet). Very nice but i bet it will prob rattle the heck out of you dash. You also will need min a 1000/1 amp just to get the best out of it.
It bites for me b/c it is such a work of art just to find a place to put my sub (in 08-x2) especially with the cubic feet requirements it needs (1.8c feet) for ported. I believe ported is the only way to go in a boat since SPL will be diminished in an open area.

I pulled that bi-fold door on my 06 and didn't think there was enough room. I'll take another look. Would you continue to run the stock free-air sub still?

13w7... That's what I'm talking about. Push it with the 1000/1 and that will sound great! I take delivery of my 45 later this week and once I can take some measurements, I'm going with either 2 12w7s or 2 13w7s in the observer compartment. May need to uprade the alternator and will definitely have to add a power cell or a large capacitor. The 1000/1 is a helluva amp, but its a voltage hog! Keep me posted on your setup and I'll do the same.

If it's an X2... I've got a box in there. It's only a 1.1 cubic foot box and I have a 10 in it. It was a TOTAL PITA to build, and get it to seal (I like sealed boxes). Then getting it in there was another story... I had to modify the bolts holding the grab rail in place.

Patience is key if you want to attempt this. You have to start with the face that the sub will be attached to (I just fired mine out of the original hole, and left the factory grill on it). Cut it, see if it fits, then cut the next piece, attach, and see if it fits. Do this for all the sides of the box, cut one at a time, because you'll have to cut it more than once.

Dj-thats exactly what im thinking, it will be a total PITA. But im tight for space since I dont want to give up alot of my storage area, but want louder bass... Ill keep your advice in mind should I decide to do it my self;).

Did you go with a MDf box?{

The best place in any boat, IMHO, is in front of the driver's feet.

The problem in an X-45 is that the brains of the electrical system is located right behind that wall. So that is why you hardly ever see any subs there in an X-45. Other models are probably different.

There is a guy who put an amp on the box and a huge Kicker 15 inch L7 there. He moved the electrical stuff and attached it to the box to be able to make the hole in the wall. The pic does not show very well, but you get the idea. If I get a chance I will take a pick behind that bifold door and show you why you can't easily put a sub there. To orient what you are looking at, the box is brown and the amp is black attached to the back wall of the box. Note the electrical stuff attached to the box.

Yep, it was MDF, which I put a few coats of fiberglass resin on, then wrapped it with carpet.

How about cutting out either a 15" or 12" or dual 10-12"spot on the passenger compartment facing the driver. Measured last night and had plenty of room for a 15" plus plenty of room for a vent, either along side the sub or below the passenger facing the back? Have to relocate the amps, but could mount on top of the sub enclosure or build new amp rack. and still use existing hook ups. This will not rattle like a under the dash mount and has plenty of room to work with. I think this is what I'm going to explore with a L7 15", a T2 or W7 or 2 L5 10-12". Any thoughts...

Holy crap. An l7 15 is some serious beat. Did you ever hear the system?

I think that is a good idea. That wall facing the walkway is reinforced so get ready to bust a few rotozip drill bits, but I think that is probably the best place. I do worry about traffic causing damage to the subwoofer, but a good shield would probably alleviate any concern there.

What discouraged me was that the opposite wall in the compartment under the glove box is not flat, so an amp rack might not be a simple install. I'll have to look at it some more.

No. A friend of mine actually found that boat and took the pics. I don't think he heard it either, just saw it at a show. I have heard an L7 12 inch. It was very impressive. Clean and tight.

Here is what you are up against when you get behind that bifold door to look behind the driver's footrest:

Looks pretty overbearing to me to think of drilling a hole in that wall and keeping the integrity of all that electrical stuff. Your boat might vary, but this is mine:

yeah that looks just like mine.. I think I'm going to build a sealed enclosure right in front of the drivers.. will loose some feet stretch room but I personally don't mind that. From my measurements, I'll be lucky to get 2 cubic feet worth max. That's plenty for an L7 12. Even for a 15 but it would be smaller since the basket is bigger. Min sealed per Kicker is 1.5 cubic for an l7 15. Had a l7 12 in my last boat and it rocked the house.

Just found 2007 X-45 on the internet - looks like they managed to put a couple subs in the driver's footrest panel. Wonder what they did with all that wiring??

I cant figure out how to post the picture so here is the link to the boat itself:

Looks like there is enough room to relocate some of that wiring higher on the panel of my X45. At this point, Im going to try to fit either a 12w7 or 13w7 in a custom enclosure behind the drivers seat where the existing free-air sub is. Ill just use the existing hole and grille to vent the box. I dont know if the 13 will fit so I might have to settle for the 12. I didnt want to loose any storage so my first choice was in front of the drivers feet. I know one could do a stealthy install there, but I dont want to abandon the existing sub. I know I will loose a little storage space but, oh well. More to follow.
