I am looking for any thoughts on 3 questions regarding my Maristar.
1) When the tranny is put into forward it makes a sound that resembles marbles rolling around. You cannot hear the sound when you get up to a higher sound but it is probably still there. You also won't hear it when the engine and tranny haven't warmed up. Any suggestions?
2) I have just purchased the boat and I know it has a 351 Indmar engine but since it is covered and winterized I am not sure of the type of tranny. Does anyone know?
3) I would like to get a service manual, any suggestions?
Thanks very much!

It could be broken springs in the damper plate.I just changed mine last week.

I didn't think they made Maristars in 87:D

I agree kycat, I thought they only made Prostars and Tristars. But if it is an '87 my guess on the tranny is a velvet drive.

Most everything should still apply, http://www.mastercraft.com/files/manuals/1989-1991_OwnersManual-Maristar.pdf

What is the last two numbers in your HIN? Not aware of a '87 MariStar.

If your boat is IDLING under 600-650 RPMS the transmission is not turning fast enough to pump the fluid. Turn you your idle to 750-800 RPMS that should solve that one.

The second possibilty is the springs on the dampner/ thrust plate. Try the idle issue first

BORG WARNER 1:1 or a 1;5 to 1.0

3) I would like to get a service manual, any suggestions?

They are online here on TEAM TALK

Thanks very much!

Hope that this helps
