Does anybody know what the difference is on a X-star with about 3000lbs on ballast ,engine LY6.

i have the 14.5 x 14.25 it revs a little high but no problems with holeshot.
An 09 came with a 15.5 x 14.75 but has the same ballast set-up same engine and same ballast. In fact they are identical except the prop.
season is starting in a few weeks,so if we have to reprop we better order early.

thanx.

good question. i will await eric at oj to respond. just for the record i have had a 14.25 X 14 on an 05 xstar with mcx. it worked beautifully. i now have a 14.75 X 15.5 on my 08 xstar with L18. it too wrks beautifully. it is not fair to compare the two props though because the L18 has 100 more horse power. i will say, however, that both boats came with a 13.7 X 17.5 standard and both upgrades were highly significant.

They sold me that 13.7x17.5 prop on an 06 xstar with mcx and i am at almost 4000ft. love the performance of the 14.5x14.25 at that elevation. looks like a big fan from the back of the boat.

The 14.75 X 15.5 will run lower RPM than the 14.25 X 14.5.

lower rpm?..at the same performance?that would be more fuel efficient.

I have the 15.5X14.75 with a MCX and it gets outta the hole fine with factory ballast +12 people... so about 2500lbs extra

The 14.75 X 15.5 will run lower overall RPM and not be as strong on the low end as the 14.25 X 14.5. Lower RPM to maintain the same speed should be more efficient.

old thread,..same question.
Does anybody have some experience with the ACME 1479? seems to have the 14.50 x 14.25 but with a .150 cup.

the OJ 522 does a good job,but it is a little sluggish out of the hole,at +/- 3250 lbs.and 4 people
The stock 14.5 x 14.25 had no problems at all but ran pretty high rpm at wakeboard speeds, and very high at cruisin speeds.
(p.s the 522 performs perfect on gasoline but we run our boats on LPG and we have just a 3% powerloss,...neglectable untill you load the boat up with 3k ballast,...)
I,m looking for a prop with just a tiny little more bite than the 522

Why don't you just send it back to OJ and have them tweak it?

I just got the ACME 1479 and I gained 3mph on the top end with no rpm loss.. Is that possible? I have a 2007 X2 with the MCX and am at sea level. I was hitting 5400-5500 rpm's WOT, with the ACME I hit 5500rpm and now my top speed is 42mph +- vs 38-39mph with the OJ at the same RPM, wierd. have not gone behind the boat yet. VERY different shape though.

ACME 1479 was the best prop I used on my 07 X30 with the LY6 but just slightly better than the OJ 14.5 X 14.25. Used mostly at 4000+ altitude and usually just with stock ballast and people, about an extra 1500lbs. Excellent prop. and Acme's are quite different that the OJ in shape. Sold mine to Venetrex. :)

I had a 1479 on my 07 X30 LY6 also. Liked it a lot till I dinged it up pretty bad. Replaced it with the 1285 for a little more grunt for surfing...did loose some top end, 39mph @5500rpm now. Looking for fuel econ go with the 1479 you don't loose that much over the 1285.

I've also noticed a slight change in the surf wake too. For the better. I still can't believe I picked up top end and slow low end grunt over the OJ for almost the same pitch. I'm a fan of the ACME!!
