Ok, so it has been really nice the last couple of days in Southern Wisconsin and today it is raining and about 39 degrees right now. I have started to see open water on some of the smalller ponds. Anyone want to take any guesses on when we will have open water on the lakes in the area? I think we were back on the water at the end of March 2 years ago, but I could be wrong.

Anybody have open water anywhere else in the Midwest?

The snow and cold are great when the snowmobile trails are in good condition. I enjoy being on my sled as much as I enjoy being out on the boat. But then again, this will be the first summer with a MasterCraft.

Once thing start to melt, Spring can't get here fast enough. I would trade the month of March for any other month. Having two months of June would be great!

We had rain all day here but the ice is still pretty thick on the lakes. I've made it out by the middle of April the last couple of years and hope for the same this year.

Pretty warm up here and lots of rain... still about a 1-1 1/2' of ice on the lake...

Typically we have ice out 2-3 week in April.

Today's air is 60.......water temp 39 with no ice. The public docks were just put in a few days ago but nights will still be under 32 for a while so no riding for me until late March/early April. (Unless my friend takes his saltwater series out before me, which is very likely) :D

Catch any fish? Or just wishful thinking that there would be less ice than that?

It is going to be a long time to open water on the lakes in Wisconsin I fear. It's been a cold winter. Thankfully I was able to sneak down to Florida and get a pull from a kind stranger to get my winter fix :-)

Thanks Alt.

Still enough ice on the local lakes here to support colony's of ice fishermen in their 3/4 ton trucks....

I think all the ice is gone here in North Central Texas, it was in the 80's both Saturday and Sunday. Water temp in the upper 50's, it tough here but someone has to do it.

That sounds good boat on the water. Wonder if the Fox closed due to all the rain?
Did you look to see how warm the water was?
What do you mean not got wet yet, a few years back the ice was still out there in big chunks when you went footing? Must be getting older or smarter?

Last year the first fully open Saturday was April 12.

I am thinking we'll be ice free 1 week earlier this year, so April 4.

I heard on the radio this morning that the Fox is above flood stage and isn't expected to crest until tomorrow night. Doesn't this sound familiar to the last couple of years!

Yes, it’s the norm around here. I guess it could be worse like some of the lakes out west being way below the averages.

The ice broke up! The ice broke up! The lakes are starting to open up. All we need is a mid 60's or better day now and I can break out the boat. Could have probably gotter her out today if I would have realized the lakes were starting to open up earlier in the day. Just does not look like it will be in the immediate future.:o

Spring is coming. I can feel it

Ice is out at my girlfriends parents house!

The ice is out about 16 feet from the shore at my parents house. The center is fairly deep so there is only fractures across the lake. We need the sun out a few more days before it's fully out. I'm hoping by next weekend it'll be open. I'll get the boat out, rip around, and maybe get wet.

The following weekend, I'll get the piers and boats in!

Good news... went away for the weekend and came home to 8in of snow... at least it's above zero, so it shouldn't last for long.

Snowing today, but at least people were removing their ice drinking huts. No skiing until middle of May here.
