Looks white to me Jim. Just filthy dirty and oxidized from sitting on that lift uncovered.

Could be either, remember there is a camera and a computer screen between your eyes and the actual boat.

Was there an '88 "Corvette" 454 though?

I also think the Cypress Gardens was just a reference so you know what he's talking about by pulling pyramids. Doesn't explicitely say this boat was used at the Gardens.

I think the question would be "Did MC build a 88 with a Corvette 454?"

No, the question is what does "Corvette" have to do with a 1988 454 boat engine? I would have thought that 88 would have a PCM 454 in it anyhow, absolutely nothing to do with a Corvette.

The LAST year that GM built a 454 for a Vette was 1974. This owner is a little confused
A Gardens boat with 280 hours...try 1280

There was a dealer to remain namless back in the day that would purchase the old Gardens boats. Back then they where replaced every 6-8 months. Somehow NEW hour meters where put into those boats...NO ECMs back then

The folks outside of the boating industry call it a "corvette" or "ford" motor just to get a point across. He probably bought if from someone who called it a "corvette" motor. That is probably also the way he describes it to his buddies.

Why not just call the guy and get the real story? Seems like when things like this are posted that speculation runs wild. Just call and get the real story!! :D

I don't see how his story will change over the phone, ask for the proof and you'll just get silence.

Monte

Seems like he is going on hearsay. I doubt he even knows the real history of the boat. If he was a boat enthusiast he would have a whole lot more info. The important thing is the boat has a 454 and "runs good". Not too shabby on the price.

Jim, remembering Dean's boat for my "grey" reference (his boat almost looked white), I'll say that boat is white.

For a few bucks, it could be a 25th Anniversary model. ;)

I think the question would be "Did MC build a 88 with a Corvette 454?"

The next question would be, how do you walk past a 454 that is mounted in an 88 PS 190? Those boats were pretty narrow compared to today.

Just do the side step. Make sure your feet are no larger than a size 10, though! 8p

Two things.. .Jim is spot on with the 454 fact... '74 was the last year for the Corvette.

But that boat is white... no doubt in my mind. :)

My '82 S and S has a factory installed 425hp/454 and you're right! Narrow on the sides and the motor box is taller too, which makes my built in glove box mirror borderline worthless!

Just got off the phone with John, the owner of the boat and it is grey. He appears to know very little about the boat, other than he bought it from his buddy about 8 years ago thinking he would use it. He has only put about 100 hours on it since he got it. His reason for thinking it was used at CG is the tall ski post. He says its taller than the windshield, and why else would you have that if you weren't doing 360's around the boat. Seems to be a nice guy that wants to move the boat to someone who would use and appreciate it more than he does.

GASouthernMC

The guy probably called it a "corvette" engine because the Indmar 454/425 is, if I remember correctly, based on the LS6 from 1970-1972 that was put in a few corvettes, although much more prevalent in El Caminos and Chevelles.
